I can guarantee you those cyclists are a quantifiable portion of the clueless, lazy, self-centered POS’s in cars that you have to deal with on the highways too.

AKA reason #847,952 why I despise the human race.

That's the sort of attitude cyclists have to deal with. The roads aren't yours. They're everyones. And if all the cyclists started using cars, or even motorcycles, the roads would be hellish.
True that the roads are for everyone. But roads as we know them today were built for automobiles. Cyclists, and I'm one, have the right to use the roads. But they need to be considerate and watch out for cars. The attitude that some cyclists have that they own the road and everyone else be damned is just as wrong as the attitude that shouldn't be allowed on the roads. As tax payers, we all own the roads.

I strive to be considerate as a cyclist, a
motorcyclist, and a cager.

I've learned a couple new slangs in the thread… "cage/cager," and "pillion" used as a reference to a passenger. My ride experience spans 5 decades and I've never heard either before. So this has been an inspiring thread for me on a couple levels- Learned a couple cool slang terms, watched an injured fellow Old Soldier mend up and get back in the saddle.

fixed-gear bicycle riding, handlebar mustache sporting, fedora wearing, skinny-jean hipster douchebag

And to better illustrate how much I hate them, this is the back of one of my favorite T-Shirts. I wear it whenever I go into town. Those jerks aren't nearly as prevalent anymore hogging up all the roads and sidewalk seating, thank God, but they know who they are. It offends the easily offendable.

So seriously, not a big fan.

Yes, what's your point? Let's leave the attacks out. We all know car drivers, and especially motorcyclists with their vain exhaust mods, can be very inconsiderate. Their inconsiderate behaviour kills. Cyclists rarely do.

Florida is a no fault insurance state which sucks. Basically one cannot sue unless he or she received permanent debilitating injury. However I had anI excellent attorney who factored in my age and apparently made a good case. I got a decent settlement without going to court. It surprised me.

Guess I missed that post. NC is a no fault state as well but cops can word their report to make it an open and shut case with the insurance companies. Happened to me twice in the last few years.

One incident a dude just in front of me in the next lane to the right going the same direction as me suddenly whipped across my lane to make a left turn, similar to your situation. This was in my pickup. I swerved to avoid him but he still raked the right side of the vehicle. The cop straight up informed me he was going to word the report heaviliy in my favor. 2nd situation was an as$-pack. Another dude right behind me in his own pickup was on his phone and didn't stop for the red light I was stopping for. I was looking right at him in my rear view watching him blatantly texting or whatever it was he was doing and not watching the road. Again, cop told me he was going to make the report totally in my favor. This was in my pickup as well.

So without actually stating so, I'd say the cop who wrote up your report made it glaringly apparent that the "cager" was the one at fault. Probably why it went so well in your favor.

FL wasn't No Fault when I was living there. I was there from early childhood to my late 30's, with nearly a decade away on active duty(18-27). I finally left in '05(thank GOD). The police back then would squarely place blame on a driver right at the scene of accidents. I've seen people freak the f—k out when this happened, like totally lose their minds to the point where the cop warned them they were about to be restrained. You'd have to fight it in court if you wanted that roadside ruling changed which would exponentially increase your legal costs.

You are right on target. There were two State Troopers at the scene. When I regained consciousness I remember seeing them standing there looking down at me as the first responders were getting me ready for transport and asking those usual questions:
What is you name?
Do you know where you are?
Who is the president?
What day is it?
Can you tell us what happened?
Then away I went for an ambulance ride. By the way i answered all the questions correctly.

Once in the ER and hooked up to the monitors ( I had a punctured lung), the two troopers came in to my bedside. They asked me did I remember what happened. I related what happened up to the point of impact. After that I woke up on the pavement being attended by the EMTs.

The troopers told me that what I told them verified what several witnesses told them. They then told me that I was definitely not at fault and that there was nothing I could have done to avoid the accident. They told me my pillion was going to be okay and they wanted us both to heal.

The crash report they wrote, complete with diagrams and toxicology results, left no doubt that the driver of the car was totally at fault.

I appreciate those troopers.

YEEF!!!

I am just now seeing this thread, I had NO idea!

Sorry y'all got CREAMED, but VERY glad to hear you are recuperating well, and got a reasonable settlement. In my opinion, when serious bodily injury occurs, there is no "good" settlement, no matter how much MONEY you get. Your body will never be the same. Anyway, REALLY glad it wasn't an uninsured illegal alien driver, THAT happens WAY more than the news ever reports...

Dang, buddy, get yourselves back on 2 wheels, and come on down for a visit. Check your PMs.

Thank you, GP. I'm doing pretty well. About 90% recovered. You are right on target. I will never be100% of where I was before the crash. I am hoping for about 95%. I praise God I'm doing as well as I am.

I would have already been to see you this past Spring except for the little setback. I am riding again. I bought a 2020 Bonneville T120 Black.

I have been following your progress on the hanger and I plan to be out your way this coming Spring on two wheels.
