Hesketh Vortan.

Evolved from the Hesketh V1000 it retains some of the better qualities of the earlier British motorcycles without turning its back on the advantages of modern material and design.

While the engine retains many of the earlier models details such as four valve heads with double overhead cams, electronic ignition and five speed gearbox we have now increased the size to 1100cc with a longer stroke, steel crank, different ignition, cams and cylinder heads. The chassis is completely new to give better performance with lighter components and steering, European styling and innovative suspension without the need for gimmicks to do its job. It is not built for speed but hopefully will reflect the mood of the rider in its response to the controls.

OK - Let's try this one.

It's a Simson

Founded in Germany by a Jewish family, the Simson’s fled their country in 1936 to escape Hitler’s dictatorship. Under the framework of dispossession of Jewish industrialists a trustee took control of the firm and merged it with other German factories.

Then in 1946 when World War II ended, the manufacturing plant was partially dismantled and transported to the Soviet Union (USSR). This was part of the Soviet reparations’ program to compensate for the damage inflicted on the USSR by Germany during the war. The Simson factory was integrated into the Soviet SAG Awtowelo (state stock company motorcycle). Later, the USSR handed back control of the factory to the German Democratic Republic (GDR) and in 1952 it was renamed VEB Fahrzeug-und Gerätewerk Simson Suhl.

Simson produced more than 300,000 motorcycles of the type AWO 425. There was 2 models: touring and sport. A 1960 sport model that was shaft driven with 250 cc four stroke engine and twin shock rear suspension is the platform for this motorcycle. Bikers from East European countries seem to be still very attached to this brand

I saw this at a vintage motorcycle show in Dania Beach, FL last January and never forgot it. No brakes and hub center steering. Whatta combination!

Well it's a new one for me.

I'll just about stick with my comments before you told us what it was. This greatly customized bike is IMHO a shocker to look at, and like just about all of the Soviet bikes it is (engine) a ripoff from a 250 BMW single.

That custom looks like it has a brake cable going into the lower right side of the diff, also two levers on the handlebars.
It also looks like pivoting leading link front suspension not hub center steering, but I'm looking a a small photo.
