I am looking to put western style handlebars on my 1968 T100S. I am intending to replace the current top lug H2100 with H2101 while keeping the original middle lug H2278. I have not tried this yet but it looks like it will fit. Does anyone know if there is problem with this apart for having a non-original combination of parts?

I assume you wish to do this to eliminate the handlebar movement inherent in the bonded bushes between the H2100 and the handlebar mounting eyebolts?

If you have not ridden with solidly mounted handlebars, I suggest first simply fitting the handlebar mounting eyebolts standard hemispherical washers reversed - hemi side outwards; the flat side of the top washer then covers the rubber washer, preventing it deforming; the flat side of the bottom washer then lies flat against the yoke. You might dislike the additional vibration normally absorbed by the bonded bushes but you will not have bought and fitted an H2101 top lug to discover this.

Alternatively, bonded bushes can be removed from H2100, bushes, hemi washers, top cup washers, rubber washers and centre spacers can be replaced with pairs of spacers that locate the standard handlebar eyebolts centrally in the empty bonded bush holes in the H2100; the replacement spacers pairs are a standard Triumph part, cheaper than an H2101 and your bike's original H2100 will be retained.

Thanks for your informative reply Rudie. The hemispherical washers were missing from the eyebolts, just flat washers, though I had no real problem with vibration.

I am fitting bars with an 8” rise so just need to ensure they don’t pivot forward. I already have the H2101 top lug and am awaiting handlebar clamps before fitting.
