Both bulbs are brand new

Well, by playing around with the different combo's of connections I've been able to get
and its deffinately not a switch problem at either brake switches.
- L&R bright
- L&R dim, no bright
- L bright, R dim ( and vice versa )
- L&R dim, with R bright (and vice versa ) <--- this is what I have it set up as now, as its the closest to working as it should.

but no L&R dim, with both L&R going bright.

Wires
Black wire
Red and Gray wire
Red and blue wire

Connections
Black
Red
Blue

The obvious Black>black RG>R RB>B does not work.

I'm fine with only one bright lighting up, but The headlight issue is whats driving me up the wall
No matter what I do, I always have the brights working, the dims off, I can't seem to switch the result

Fuse - replaced
Relays - both seem to be working properly
Bulbs - checked
Handlebar switch - took apart, cleaned, confirmed working with volt meter, wire connections are fine.

Would it be possible that the low beams are wired in a series, so if one went out so would the other?

I would hate to go buy brand new bulbs just to confirm they are not the problem.
(espc. since at one point everything was working properly, then I turned the key off, then back on, and they quit working again )

So I've confirmed both realays work, but the bigger relay seems to have five pins on it, but my connector only has 4 wires going in to it. I'm not sure if its supposed to be like that or not, but I can't find a loose wire anywhere.

I suppose I'll just have to order a manual and see If i can trace it down.

Any dealership will charge me $100 an hr just to try doing everything i've arleady done to fix it.

For now, I guess i'll just run with brights on all the time, and I pointed them down as much as I can to not piss off other drivers.

I might be able to scan the wiring diagram and post it. Just not sure how well it will scan???

Also I'm thinking it could even be in the ignition switch since the lo beam must be wired into it somehow.

PS: you may have a point about the lo beams being wired in series? I've honestly never had any headlight bulb go out on mine. I did upgrade them to PIAA bulbs though

Well, I went out and bought some cheap bulbs to test, and they didn't fix anything.

The ignition switch could be a possibilty, but i would think that with the key on and the bike off you would still have lights?

I suppose I can dissassemble the right hand controls and check to see if anything in there might cause a problem.

I would guess that ON is just ON and whether or not the engine is running wouldn't matter.

By the way...when you went down there's a possibility a wire got loose going INTO the fuse block. You may want to loosen the fuse block itself to see if all wires are attached

yeah, that could be a possibility, that it got knocked loose when I laid it down, and that over the last month of riding it finally broke loose.

I dunno, since I've had it there has never been a warning light, and kickstand position has no effect on starting or riding the bike.

I haven't owned a Triumph Triple yet that didn't require removing the tank, air box, body work to change spark plugs. Even the naked Speed Triple required tank off and all to do the plugs. After the first few times you get rather good at it. Can just about do mine with my eyes closed.:y2:
But just a word of advice, anything else you may need to d....or plan to do soon filter, wires, adjusting throttle bodies or what not, go ahead and do it all at once.
And the tank is MUCH lighter when empty. :y15:

Question: is it possible to replace the spark plugs without having to take the tank and airbox off?

On a Trophy you only have to remove the tank. The airbox is well behind and below.

Carefully lift the tank a few inches at the rear and stick something in there to hold it up while you unplug fuel gauge wire and fuel line.

Pay attention to the arrangement of the insulation over the engine since getting it back correctly is important for proper cooling and not frying the coils.

PS: A new member joined that is selling a windscreen with a vent in it I thought you might be interested in.

Sounds good, i've been having some miss-fires and really low power under acceleration, and occasionally stalls out at stop lights, so i'm hoping I just have a fouled plug.

Really thinking of going ahead and replacing all the plugs, fuel filter, and oil change this weekend.

Also, i've not done much research into this, but would replacing my stock headlights with a HID kit have any reason to fix my headlight issue? once again, the everything has power except the low beams ( high beams work fine ) but If its a melted wire somewhere, probably not. :(

There isn't really a fuel filter on stock Trophys unless someone added one. There's a mesh screen inside the tank where the fuel petcock attaches and then there are four tiny fuel filters where each fuel line enters each carb.

I doubt an HID set up will cure your no low beam problem.

I cant get my head around everything having power but the low beams dont work.
I would have thought if you have low beam power at the bulb socket then the bulb is crook or you have a bad earth on the bulb holder.
If not then check for power at the hi/lo switch,if its live at the in side and dead at the lo out then you have a crook switch.
If its live at the out side of the switch, then you have a crook wire between the switch and the bulb holder.

Not only is there a HI-LO switch, but there's a HI beam flasher inside the same handlebar switch housing. Then there's the fuse block, the ignition switch, and the relays....all which interact with the the lights.
