Hello Dave, you do not really need a 100hp bike to enjoy your your biking. How many times did you go full taps on your 1050 Tiger or the 955 Daytona and for how long did you keep up with that speed? Just enjoy your ride.

What is just a little bit scary is that I'm about to get sub-hundred horsepower motorcycle.... Getting old!

Come Dave you can do it lol

Funny thing just thinking about it in all my years of riding I have never moved over the 1000cc mark, not sure what the highest HP has been but I am sure it has never been that high either

Maybe it's time for a Rocket BGRIN

HP to CC ratio isn't always what you think it is for sure.
I owned a Suzuki 1400 cc Intruder. Had a whopping 71 HP
I also owned a 955i Speed Triple (P.O. modified & dyno certified) with 138HP! (I called this one widow maker....what a blast!)
My 750 Suzuki Katana cranked 91 smooooth as silk HP
While my Suzuki Marauder 805 only gave a sorry (but fun) 50 hp.
And my 1200 cc Sportster managed (supposedly) 67 hp (I think the Motor Company lies) but was so heavy it couldn't come close to catching the Marauder or its own shadow 1/2 the time.
From what I find online the Rocket 3 "only" puts out 140hp, 2 more than my old Speed3 at more than 2 times the displacement and weight?????
So the displacement=horse power=fun argument falls very very flat.

I knew a fella that ran a Kawi 250 Ninja on the track in Homestead FL., 34 hp of (to quote him) TOTALLY AMAZING FUN!

If you are having fun who cares what number comes after the name, just ride the piss outta it :y2:

Our local Triumph dealer re-opened today after the holidays. My Tiger 1050 has been wonderful, but it's now 3 years old and it's time for a change. Why? Because life is short and I want a new bike! :y2:

This morning we did a deal in principle to trade the 1050 in for a new white Tiger 800 fitted with:

Tilt adjustment for the standard screen,
Hand guards,
Heated grips,
Headlamp protector,
Radiator guard,
Centre stand,
Givi top box rack,
Leo Vince or Remus exhaust (whichever is cheaper)
Engine protector bars

I've done many local rides with avion on his T800 so I'm very familiar with what this machine can do what it is capable of!

I've avoided the 'bigger is better' trend and have chosen the 800 over the 1200 Explorer. I hope I'll get the bike in a couple of weeks' time.

In the mean time I can't ride the 1050 any more, nor my XT660 Yamaha because I'm selling that too.

I also aim to fix the Daytona's charging problems once and for all over the next couple of weeks & I'm really looking forward to that. Then I'll be back to two bikes which is all I really need or want. It's a nice way to start the year! :y16:

Hey make sure you upload some pics when you get it...

HORN DOES NOT WORK- WATCH FOR FINGER!

Well just looking back I see that my Honda 900F got Max Power 95 hp @ 9000 rpm. My Honda 750F1 got Max Power 69 hp @ 8000 rpm and now my Speedmaster gets Power: 55.00 HP (40.1 kW)) @ 6500 RPM, so I sure am going backwards in the HP department :y13:

I have to say I am slightly envious. As a side note, Steve McQueen was more of a man than I on only about 45HP and 350lbs of machine. I am guessing you will be in Great shape. I will surprised if the bike won't do anything the rider wants it to do. Gratz!

It's going to prove most interesting. The trend is always more and more power, bigger (usually heavier) and always faster. A good friend of mine in the UK has just bought a used Suzuki SV650 for his son with restrictor plates fitted to limit it to 33 bhp and he reckons it's quite rideable and that without the restrictors in that the bike is more than fast enough for British conditions. Who has ever ridden a Yamaha LC350 and will say that they didn't enjoy it?

We live in a world now where there are crazy fast sports and superbikes, gargantuan tourers, stupidly powerful streetfighter style bikes, ridiculously heavy and powerful adventure bikes, massively complicated electronic systems with programmable wheelie & traction control and I've reached a stage where I'm crying: Enough- I don't want that!

Another good friend in England is a Honda RC30 750-V4 enthusiast and I've ridden his bike and it's fabulous, even by today's standards. Just two months ago Motorcycle News' chief tester rated it as one of the best five bikes that he rode in 2012!
Quote: "Honda RC30. Earlier in the year I got to ride an RC30 as part of a Honda V4 celebration feature (I also rode an RC45 and an NR750). It was completely standard, aside from the wheels – lightweight 17” Marvics, replacing the standard items. It was incredible.

Even by today’s standards it’s a breathtaking machine. It’s light, handles beautifully and rock-solid stable. The engine hasn’t got much more than 100bhp, but the power delivery is linear and the carburation lovely and smooth. It’s so easy to ride fast.
Then there’s the RC30’s soul-stirring V4 soundtrack. I still think about that test now – an unforgettable day."

Horses for courses I guess.

Stop posting this stuff!
Each time I think about the 800 Tiger and the linear power I think about the fact that my Street Triple has it's best up high and I never go there. SAD

Ha, ha!

I've ridden the Street Triple a couple of times. The 800 has a more mellow tune and lacks the fizz and pep of the 675. You know the answer......

.... keep it above 10,000 rpm and enjoy the power and the soundtrack! :y2:

It's raining here this morning so I guess that I'll have to wait until tomorrow.

Utterly predictable of course- I am the Brit/Pom/Limey. I once drove through the Arizona desert- 30 yards visibility, thunderstorm & torrential rain. I could make the Sahara awash just by looking at it!
