The Silli Supporters Club duly pitched at the racetrack. I'll not steal Silli's thunder because I'm sure he'll give report of today's racing in due course.

It's sufficient for me to say that he scored points in both races and I think he did very well TUP.

He does have an unusual way to air his socks!

Our friend Erik had a really good day and scored two top ten finishes, so it was a great day out.

Well, with dry socks, this is how it went on Sat.

Had fitted new tyres and scrubbed them in on Friday afternoon, and was running a lovely soft Metzler K1 on the back.

Sat. qualifying went great, and out of a field of 28 I qualified in P8: A result with which I was delighted.

Heat 1 and I fumbled the start, seeing lots of bikes coming past as we approached turn 1. Was very out of sorts
but carried on regardless until we were red-flagged due to this event.....

I nearly hit the guy!

So, we reform on the grid in our original positions and the officials them proceeded to re-arrange us into our positions
as at the red flag (15th for me :( ). Fair enough, but it was HOT.

Off we go again and I get sort of comfortable and finally finish in P12, with 3 dnfs. This scored my first championship points - 4.

Heat 2 was infinitely better. The start was also pretty poor but after that I felt really good, possibly due to the "it couldn't be any worse" syndrome. Had a good "dice" with someone
and finally got the better of him.

Finished heat 2 in P11, gaining a further 5 points.

I also won a trophy for 3rd place in the "masters" category. (Read "old bast@rds").

I guess all in all it was a pretty good result, although I can't help feeling that it should have been a lot better.

At least I didn't drop it this time.

Once again I will thank DaveB, as well as Gareth and his brother, for their encouragement and support.

Cheers

Silli. :)

I think that I should point out that this was only Silli's second visit to the Zwartkops Raceway, the previous one being 18 months earlier on a trackday when he rode a borrowed Thruxton. The eminent biker journalist Alan Cathcart who has track ridden all types of bikes all around the world wrote that Zwartkops, whilst being a 2.5km short circuit, is very technical and he jolly well wouldn't have bothered writing that if he'd not found it quite difficult, even with his enormous track riding experience. As a road rider, on the one trackday I tried there, I found that the track design puts an absurd amount of pressure on the bike's front end, but perhaps its most difficult aspect is that there's nowhere really to take even half a breather- it's incredibly physical.

Anyway, you scored championship points in your fourth race meeting. What can anyone say? That's terrific. All the results are published on the web, so now let's see you shoot up the rankings from your current position on the log!

Is the next race meeting at Kyalami on 16th June? Are you going to do a track day there before the next race?

Well done Silli, dicing is dicing and it don't matter what position your dicing for thats the fun of racing.

Yes mate well done.
I second what Sketchy Snr said, I was never a super star but when I was racing I had some world championship type battles for middle of the field placings.
It's good fun, aint it.

It was a great day out at Zwartkops, congratz to Silli, Eric and Morne - you guys did very well.

I have a few pics that I've decided to bomb the thread with....
