Silli did the Triumph track day at the Red Star raceway after his first race meeting there in February. This morning he qualified 21st on the grid (about 40 riders) and was 9 seconds quicker than any lap he did at that first race meeting!

Race 1, first corner congestion and he's in the thick of the action.

Here he is in the centre of the pic as the track twists its tortuous path. But it's not a common racetrack setting- check out the freeway traffic top right.

He's sure got some style.

I think Silli finished 24th in Race 1.

But the race had another special interest for me. My good buddy young Erik was in the same race. Erik has featured in a number of avion's ride reports & videos and the three of us often ride together on weekends. Erik did a handful of these Breakfast Run class races last year on his Yamaha R6, but he's just bought a used race-prepared Suzuki GSXR-750. This race meeting was the very first time he'd ridden it.

I think he finished 18th.

Sorry, I don't know how or why I'm attaching images- it's not intended & I don't know how to delete them....

Race 2. A storm was approaching but thankfully it stayed dry. Silli showing them how it's done.

He finished a really impressive 18th!

Erik started to get to grips with the Suzuki and got serious- he was 15th.

Unfortunately I missed Gromit and Farside at the track and then got hit by a thunderstorm & darkness on the way home.

All in a day's spectating I suppose :y2:!

I visited Phakisa for the first time 3 weeks ago. I'm sure the facilities inside the track, where the paddock and pits are, are all OK. The spectator facilities on the outside of the track are non existent- it's all gone to seed and is terribly run down (I couldn't even buy a cold drink on the outside of the circuit). It was difficult to accept that it was a Moto GP facility just a few years ago.

Wow DaveB - that's a real shocker!!!!

What's the problem with Kyalami not wanting to rent the track out for Silli's kind of racing? They do loads of track days without a hassle but Full Throttle can't get a booking for a race day??

Not going to blether on with a race report because DaveB has done it for me, but will post the times / results.

Previous race meeting: Qualified 35th out of 44 with a time of 25.**.**.

Saturday March 10th 2012: Qualified 22nd out of 39 with a time of 2.16.328.

Heat 1: Finished 24th out of 38 with a best lap time of 2.13.652

Heat 2: Finished 18th out of 38 with a best lap time of 2.13.887

Won a trophy for 2nd best consistently improved in class.

Very chuffed. :y16:

Congrats on the trophy. Very well done! You do your Triumph Talk family proud!

Update.

Next race on Sat 21st April - so only 4 sleeps. Venue is Phakisa Speedway, in Welkom, SA.

Phakisa-Race-Track.jpg

Had never ridden here before until 3 weeks ago. This circuit is fast and very exciting. 4.2km long. (The blacktop part. The grey is the oval track).

The bike has been in for SAI and CAT removal, remap and dyno. 6.5% increase in torque and power.

Roll on the weekend. :)
