But we could do it so 1/2 their learning is virtual and 1/2 in class for the social element and basically cut school size in 1/2. One week in. One week at home learning.

Latest update from Australia, as of 6:00 AM 30th March we have 16 dead.
Our Prime Minister just announced a "Job Keeper" scheme to run for 6 months. Nationally any company with a 30% drop in turn over will be paid $750 per week for every person they employ. That applies to every employer even not for profit organizations. Some part time workers will actually get a pay rise. If an employee happened to be on $1,000 per week the company now only pays $250 to keep them working.
This is to compliment the doubling of unemployment benefits and $750 cash hand outs to pensioners and unemployed. Further cash handouts to be announced.
The cash is to stimulate the economy now and the "Job Keeper" scheme is to keep business ready to fire up quickly when things improve.
6 months is considered the minimum time required to slow the virus.
Conservative governments don't do this kind of thing unless it's sink or swim time.

They sure don't. Governments need to swim or we will sink! We as in the people. All I worry about is that when this is all don't inflation goes batshit crazy. Interest rates skyrocket and we are back into another
storm.
This is really outstanding and I think all countries need to look at ways to try and save their economy.
Half our government including the priminister has it now .... but borris has pledged to pay every worker in the country 80% of there wages up £2500 per month as of april 1st if they've been layed off due to the virus .

Just short of 20.000 cases in the UK. Only 241 cases in the county I live in. Seems worse in cities. Only So much I can do to my bikes while not riding them.
I am still riding almost every day. Traffic is light and getting out is enjoyable. Pretty easy to keep my social distance while on the bike.
I don't find any comfort in words like "ONLY" when making comparisons between counties or countries. The mathematics of this thing tells us we're all a week or two away from Italian or Spanish outcomes.
If we (meaning all) self isolate allowing the infected to recover or die without transmitting on to others in 6 to 12 months the problem will be history. Those who think it will be OK in 2 or 4 weeks are the ones who will perpetuate the virus.
I agree and I laughed when they said we will have a 21 day lockdown, 21 days will do nothing to even try and slow this down. We might not even see our peak in 21 days.

Well, Prince Charles has now recovered apparently, so bang goes my hope to take the throne. Boris Johnson has it too, along with some of the Cabinet. We've been told the UK would do well to finish with 20,000 dead. Much anger as to why the government didn't see this coming - it was in China months ago now.
Our police are being heavy handed, 'shaming' people using drone footage - and all those people did was drive somewhere isolated to get some (allowable) exercise alone. Us Brits are policed 'by consent', so this is damaging. If I ride alone to an isolated piece of countryside (which is easy here in East Yorkshire), take a walk, get some fresh air and top-up my sanity then ride home alone, what has that to do with the police? I'm compromising nobody's health. There's a chance I'd have an accident, admittedly, which would be an extra burden on the authorities, but we're being encouraged to exercise on bicycles and do DIY, which are much more dangerous overall.
Our NHS is appreciated more than ever, but they are short of personal protection equipment and putting themselves into danger. I'm very confused by how C19 can be fatal to some, but simply give others a bit of a cough. It's certainly the longest lasting thing ever that was made in China.

Don't forget that around 1% of any western world country dies in any given year - in the UK that's around 1,700 every day, or one poor soul every 50 seconds or so. I'm not wishing to downplay the gravity of this situation, but maybe some of those dead died 'with' Covid19 rather than 'from' Covid19?
