It's being said in some circle's that the financial loss is going to be worse than the deaths.

I guess it depends on how you look at things.

Other experts are saying that the pandemic in African countries is going to be beyond a disaster. So many countries there are struggling with HIV and tuberculosis and have poor health care.

The townships in South Africa are packed with people and will be hit very hard if it gets in there. It's probably only a matter of time and it could be disastrous for them.

This is definitely going to hurt the global economy but not doing what we are doing I believe (not an expert) will be far more devastating and there may be no way to recover to have an economy - the dark ages lasted 400 yrs after the plague - If this got away from us and a large percentage died because we could no longer treat the infected as our health care systems were overwhelmed we could have a society that breaks right down - Imagine if the recovery rate is only 70% without medical assistance and infection rate unchecked is 60 to 80% we would loose 15 to 30% of world populations - I am not a virologist nor a statistician but from what I have read this is what the world leaders are worried about. This and that this is only the first wave - the Spanish flu had 3 waves. Each time it was more lethal.

Shane glad to hear you were not laid off, it sure is sad for those that were.

Rocky you right about Africa the threat here is huge with the situation and how people live.

We now have 709 cases, each day the number jumps. They saying that we can expect 60% of all South Africans to end up being infected.

23 March: 19 people could be facing jail time after cases were opened for committing violations against the National State of Disaster.

Current cases of COVID-19 in South Africa - 709

Just heard on the news now that two people that were tested positive for the virus and did not go into self quarantine and were found moving around have been charged with attempted murder.

This is the only way to handle people like this.
I just cannot understand the attitudes of people like that. Solitary confinement in a prison is what they deserve.

Here in Central Florida, Orange (Orlando) and Osceola (Kissimmee), both Disney Counties, have gone into lock down.People are ordered to stay home and non-essential businesses closed. Seminole County in which I live has not done this. In Orlando, people can still got to the grocery stores, pharmacies, medical offices, etc. they may also exercise, walk dogs, etc. Alachua County (Gainesville and the University of Florida) has also issued a lockdown. Without getting into politics, these lock downs follow political party lines. What I am curious about is how these lock downs apply to and affect folks from other counties who are just traveling through.

Our lockdown starts at midnight tonight. I had to go out to get meds this morning. Never in my life have I seen such madness. People are driving like crazy people, I came across a few accidents. A taxi just turning out of a parking nearly took me out. If the lane on the right had a car next to me I would have hit either it or the taxi.

There are long lines of people waiting outside some of the stores. There is no parking anywhere so people are just parking anyplace they find a spot.

The amount of traffic on the roads is just stupid, even the back roads are bumper to bumper. Four way stops are now a free for all and people are just driving through them when they should be stopping.

Good for you Shane , any kind of positive move is good for us all .
Sorry to hear about you situation Dave , looks like a lot of people will be dropped from X mas card lists this year .
Here on little Prince Edward Island everything is going pretty well ,I think . Lots of scary stories of friends and acquaintances taking a week to get home from Spain or the Dominican , but just 5 cases ,no deaths , population 150,000 . So think those are pretty good numbers . I am 10 days in isolation now and itching to get out .
My American cousins reporting 247 deaths yesterday for the entire country , which puts them over the 1,000 mark . Thinking that is not good . Cousins are in Boston area , a 10 hour drive , probably another 5 to New York which of course is not doing well, to say the least . So we are on the edge of the earth but not that far from a major :shit: show .
Stay safe you guys and gals . Brooke
