I used to use a green canvas cover. Motoguzzi, engine stuck out. No issue using it with hot engine. Fades and looks tatty, but remains functional, so good.

Now, if leaving my love somewhere, a city or the countryside when hiking, I use two locks. A heavy chain, which would need bolt cutters. Keep the chain off the floor, very difficult to then cut . And i use a thick d-lock (u-lock). This needs a jack to pry apart.

So a thief needs two tools and be built like Dwayne "the Rock" Johnson.

Very seldom, never in fact, is there something to lock to, so just have to accept in could be tossed in the back of a van by one person in a few seconds. The thief might have a portable angle grinder of course. But life has risks. Can't not ride because of them, unless judged to be great.

In the UK we can't shoot vehicle theives! Not sure that's a bad thing.

As previously mentioned, half cover is an excellent option. It keeps your bike’s seat and instrumentation dry in case of rain without contacting the pipes, and also hides how pretty it is from potential thieves. A high decibel motion alarm is a good option to draw attention immediately if someone were to try and move the bike.

Here in NV USA we can carry open or concealed. When I ride out of town I have a snub nose 38 on my hip.

Castle law here, if you tell someone to leave your property and the are a threat in any way and refuse, deadly force is allowed.
Yes, each state is different so didn’t want to give an applied all answer. I’m pretty sure being threatened by a robber is not going to look good for the prep.

Slight potential issue. Dead person can't explain they weren't a threat, were going to leave.
Well, when someone threatens you, you don’t know their intentions. A person can be killed by a simple blow, it doesn’t take a weapon. Does a person need to wait for an explanation or take the chance this individual that is threatening with violence is only interested in goods and won’t carry through with their threat anyway. The way I see it, a person that uses threat of violence, they don’t deserve the opportunity to explain. They have the opportunity and choice before they act. Once they do, the result is on them.

Wasn't really the point I was making. People have recently been shot because the threat was they simply knocked on a door/drove into a driveway, with no ill intention. If you're dead you don't get to explain it was a misunderstanding or irrational reaction to innocent behaviour.

That is true as well. It’s happened here some years back that a drunk or somehow disoriented youth visiting from overseas started jumping backyard fences and ended up getting shot by a homeowner when this individual was either trying to break through a back door or trying to get attention or even front door. There’s home invasions and so on, usually the front door. My sympathies. This country has a violence problem and people are breaking into people’s homes. My advice, if you’re lost and need help, go to a police station, a fire station or any public convenience. Think how your actions could be seen and don’t assume things are as they are at home. Don’t assume people understand your intentions and don’t assume people think you are harmless. It’ll be safer. Yes, if you end up getting shot you can’t explain. Know where you are and find out about local laws. Above all don’t assume anything. That may be harsh, but it’s safe advice.

Call 911, they get there after you are harmed or killed by a criminal.

That was my point, calling 911 is great if you have time, but if you don’t and the act is imminent.
One New Year’s Eve I had a person I thought was drunk trying to force their way into my home. I called 911 and waited 40 minutes for the police to show up. The individual gave up after 30 minutes. I contemplated if I needed to reach for my gun, but didn’t. It was close enough if needed. It’s always a judgement call. When the police arrived I told them what happened and they searched the nearby area. Could someone else have shot this individual, perhaps. Doing stupid things is not safe. Stay sober and don’t make yourself vulnerable as a victim or a target. It’s tragic for all if someone gets shot and killed.

Castle Doctrine in no way gives you the right to blow somebody away just because they're on your property and refuse to leave, even if they're making threats or acting beligerantly. That's tresspassing and not a legal shoot in any state. There are various circumstances that have to be satisfied for a good shoot. It is not so simple as telling he cops "he was a threat," even if you have "proof" he was. You pretty much have to be under assault and pray the incident was recorded on a Ring system, some kind of CCTV, or you have sober witnesses.

Castle Doctrine applies to one's home ("Castle"). It doesn't really apply to other property like vehicles. You can't just smoke somebody because you catch them stealing your car… unless they are armed and approaching. If you walk outside to take the trash out and see somebody in your vehicle trying to hot-wire it, you cannot simply open fire. You can however produce a weapon and subdue the perp. If he advances you can cap him. Hopefully he'll still have the screwdriver in his hand. It is a very delicate scenario.

Also- If even an armed perp is fleeing in your car and you open up and kill him, you may still be in MAJOR trouble.

"Stand Your Ground"/No Duty To Retreat laws apply to assaults out on the streets, off your domicile. Again… you have to be under assault. And just because a state has Castle Doctrine doesn't necessarily mean it has "Stand Your Ground," although AFAIK many, many if not most do.

If you are ever unfortunate enough to be standing over an attacker that you just had to air out, SAY AS LITTLE AS POSSIBLE TO THE POLICE, if anything at all. Just tell them the very bare-bones basic outline and DON'T SAY ANOTHER WORD. Like 1 or 2 sentences. I/E: "He ran at me screaming with that knife so I protected myself." DON'T SAY ANOTHER WORD. The cops are there to criminalize you. They are not there to help you. The only other thing you say is "I'm not answering any questions without an attorney present." You're 99% chance going downtown anyway so just accept it.

There's no one out there more pro-2A than me, but you must know what you're doing. If you're excersizing that right I strongly recommend studying your applicable laws and brushing up on them REGULARLY. What one DA may see as a clear cut self defense case 5 others in that same county might not. It can be very subjective.

That depends on your state. I’m not advocating shoot first or anything of the sort. Simply that each state has its own laws and if you feel you are in imminent danger of losing your life you can defend yourself with deadly force. If I’m in my car boxed in and someone comes to threaten my life at least in Texas it would not be a stretch to say I have a right to defend myself. I doubt I would even need to try to flee, not everyone is physically capable of escaping. As I said before, know your state laws. I don’t look up other states, but I’m pretty sure of mine. I think this topic has diverged enough. LoL.

Understood, I know the law here. I pray I never need to shoot someone.
