Not a rant (if that may be permitted)...

Two days ago I had cataract surgery on my left eye. At first , the difference was noticeable, but now the difference is wonderful, and probably going to get some better. I'm looking forward to my right eye being done in almost two weeks.

Nope, Greyfell that's not a rant so not allowed here. Now if you had of worded it something like this" Damned cataracts! Why does it have to happen to me? Thank goodness the Dr. was able to fix it up for me. If it turns out good, I may let him touch the other one."

In all seriousness, glad it is getting better and you can look forward to better vision once the other eye is done.

A bit of a long story so here is the short version. I needed to recover a product key for Windows 7 and I had the original disks. So I phone Microsoft help line get connected to a support staff. I explain my sad story to them so they need to do a remote support logon, I set this up and she logs onto the PC in question (now I have already been on the line for some time trying to get her to understand my problem).

So she scratches around for some time while I hang on. She then tells me she need to see a photo of the original disk and packaging. No problem I take a photo with my phone. So now I need to hookup the phone to my main PC to get it off. I do this copy it to a flash drive. Move the flash drive from my PC to the one we working on and open the photo now she can see it. She zooms in and out of the photo for some time scratches around some more.

She then tell me no she now need to see the purchase document. Now this is a PC from a customer purchased 5 years back and there is no such documentation available. I have now been on the phone for more than an hour. I then get told sorry without the documentation and my name on it the have no way of verifying that I actually own it

So I ask her what now and she tells me I will need to purchase a new license. The problem is you now cannot purchase Windows 7 anymore and it needs to be Windows 10. Now this leads to another problem as this is one of two PC that work together with a common database and they both need to be the same.

I have always said Microsoft is just out to try and takes us all for as much cash as they can.

I think that they probably could have sorted your issue, Dave, but would rather try for the upsell.
Good luck in trying to get it resolved.
I mean, really! Who keeps their receipts for outdated stuff.

OK, here it is the weather has been up in the 90's and the humidity high enough to make it miserable. Today a front came through and the weather is finally cool and nice, almost to cold probably because we are used to the heat. I really feel like ranting and raving because something must be bad about this. I am taking my T140 out tomorrow and the convertible out when i get back maybe late in the afternoon. I know somehing bad is in the cards, stay tuned this can't last very long!

Well our garbage collectors are on strike again today so no garbage has been collected. Here when you put your garbage out for collection it is somewhat like taking a ticket in the Lotto.

I struggle to see their point as if they back at work tomorrow they will have to collect today's garbage and what is put out tomorrow.

If it's still as hot as it was there recently, the sweet smell of fermenting garbage must be nice BGRIN

And yes, tomorrow or the next day, pick up twice or three times as much = 2 - 3 times the work.

The biggest issue I have with this is the vagrants know what day we put out our garbage, so the come around and open the plastic bags we use for the garbage. So now you have open bags and the way my house is situated on a slight bend at the end of the street. So if the wind blows any garbage that is now out of the bags blows directly into my driveway and sits on my front lawn.

Update on our garbage collection story.

Well they never did collect the garbage last week and have issued statements in the local media that this will only be done this week on our normal collection day. So you would think people would bring in their respective garbage bags that were put out. Well as per normal this was not done by most people. So we had high winds last night and I have just come in from collecting a full garbage bag of other peoples garbage from my front lawn.

While I was busy with this my direct neighbors garbage started blowing into my front yard, so I picked that up as well but did not put it into my now full garbage bag but felt he would appreciate it more if I just returned it to him over their front wall BGRIN
