Washington DC is shut down like a ghost town.

But the guards at the Tomb of the Unknown will remain on-post at Arlington Cemetery during the hurricane:

Yahoo reported:

Hurricane Sandy is expected to slam the East Coast and the federal government is shut down—but the U.S. servicemen who guard the outdoor Tomb of the Unknowns at Arlington National Cemetery will remain on duty.

“They will not abandon their post,” an employee who answered the Arlington Cemetery’s phone confirmed to Yahoo News. He identified himself as “George,” but was not authorized to speak on the record to the media.

The tomb, located just outside Washington, D.C., holds the remains of unidentified soldiers from World War I, World War II and Korea.

The elite sentinels selected to guard it have kept watch continuously at the site since 1948.

Keep in mind that they are doing this voluntarily. They do not have stand watch in a hurricane. These guys refuse to stand down. God bless them.

What is it with women though? Both my Daughter and Wife are acting like I'm crazy and aren't preparing at all.

Just the opposite of my wife. She overly prepares. But that's OK; I would rather her over prepare than not prepare.

Our farm in North Carolina has gotten hit by the blizzard in the Appalachians. I will have to go up there later this week to check the place.

Wow....just watching the press conference with the Governor of New Jersey!

It's devastated. There a railroad cars sitting on the turnpike. An amusement park roller coaster is out in the ocean. And many oceanfront communities simple no longer exist.

We have some of our crews from Arkansas, Mississippi, Louisiana and Texas headed to the storm area. Some of the crews departed last night and others this morning in the first wave. Additional crews are on standby to head that way later in the week but could be mobilized tonight.

Several other area utilities are also mobilizing along with others all along the Gulf Coast.

I was being highly sarcastic! BGRIN

However, FEMA responded pretty quickly to me when my road was destroyed by flooding. It took 45 days for the water to go down where they could access the property. But as soon as the water went down, they inspected and repaired my road.

So far the death toll is about 30 and 8 million are without electricity.

Considering it hit the most densely populated area of the USA, that's actually pretty good...or could have been worse.

Mind-boggling for us in SA to imagine 8m people without electricity! That's about 16% of the entire population of SA! And I saw a clip of a guy riding a jet-ski down a street in Manhattan!! Just unbelievable! Hope our TT guys check in soon.
