Well I got all my persimmon logs stacked in the back yard for the Copperheads to hide in. Well someone commented on all the wood that has appeared at the house so I told her I needed a chuck so I could turn bowls and then she says order the chuck for your birthday. So late this morning I run down to Woodcraft to get the hardware for 5 pens I want to turn to give me a chance to test the new turning tools I bought at the M.A.D. Pen Gathering. When I get home the Big Brown truck is sitting in front of my house delivering the chuck a day early. . . So I tell her my birthday present arrived early. Time to get busy in the shop turning a few items or as Cap'n Eddie would say. . . "Makin' Shavin's" and I'm getting ready to head out to the shop to get rid of some of that "That's a lot of wood piled up by my potting shed" she commented on but now I'm asked to go to the store. But I want to be "Makin' Shavin's" instead. :ohwell:

Well the errand is run and I got the chance to play with one of the tools, my Magic Skew. Wow!!! this tool is sweet and cuts the acrylic like warm butter and I turned the below pen about half the time it would have taken with my old gouge and skew. Had almost no sanding needed so that took off at least 30 minutes from the production time. I think I can safely say the purchase was well worth it even if she did almost faint when she heard what I spent on it. BGRIN

The photos don't do the color justice, this is one awesome pen.

I need to go back to Woodcraft or Rockler tomorrow to get a bushing for another couple ( a couple historic event) pens. I got to talking to the sales staff at Woodcraft and forgot to get the bushings while I was there. I know of three individuals that will probably want the two pens and if these do as good as I think they will, I have a couple more they may go even crazier for. Hopefully I'll have photos of the first ones tomorrow to share.

From my Facebook post for my family to see. . .
With all the free time on my hands due to the current situation. . . Not the situation y'all are thinking about, the situation where I'm burning my vacation time in a pre-retirement trial run. . . Vacation until actual retirement date. . . I went out to the shop to clean and organize it. Well I got a 2" X 4" plastic tray organized and a pen blank got to calling my name. I just couldn't resist the blank and had to turn it. As soon as I had it finished I got back to my organizing and another blank got to calling to me. I'd just thrown an empty box away so thought that was enough, I'd turn the other blank too. I noticed an oddity in the blank and took it easy until I got down to the crack and filled it with CA. Once the CA had time to set up I began turning again and turned past the crack when the other end developed a crack and set off a massive failure of the blank. So I shutdown the lathe and got back to cleaning and heard another blank calling my name. . . I threw it in the trash pile. But the first one did good and here it is and then it with the green one from yesterday.
