I know i seem to be the only Tbirder here, but for those who may be interested (Dave and Carl, take note :ya2:) i bought a set of the short pipes from a owner on one of the boards to replace my long tors. I did this because while i at first liked the look of the longs better, i began to note that i prefer the look of the shorties with a bike like mine where the pillion is removed and no bags or 2 up touring seat. Those with any of those seats or bags seem to look better with longs. Anyways, main reason i got them is because i wanted to be able to get to the axl bolt w/o having to remove the muff. But i love the look now too. The big surprise was tone and performance. i expected no difference over my long tors because thats what i've been led to believe, and triumph USA even told me they sound and perform exactly the same. Boy are they wrong ! I recieved not only much nicer tone that is deeper with far less harshness and no louder, but the power gain was impressive ! The long tors gave me no gains at all that i could detect,. these did, and in a pretty big way. I loved the bike before, now i'm in love all over again. Cannot wait to ride this weekend ! To anyone with a tbird now or in the future, if you decide to get tors get the shorties. No comparison IMO. :y115:

Well just on the look alone I have always liked the short pipes. I would have been very surprised if there was no difference in sound and performance to the long pipes. Make sure to post some pics of them as I would like to see how it looks :y115:

I will take a pic this week, maybe tomorrow and post it. I can't believe what a overall change they have made for the better. It's like this is what the bike was missing. Not that it was missing much, but you know what i mean. That feeling of perfection.

Congratulations, Dale. That was a good find. I really want to see the pics. I agree with you; the shorties look better on a single rider bike. Like Dave, I cannot see how the shorties would not have an effect on the sound and performance. There is just that much less restriction.

True Carl, but whats odd is that while they sound deeper and better over all and have better power, they don't seem to be as loud as the longs ! That strikes me as very odd unless somehow i'm just hearing them wrong. Could be me i suppose, but they really do sound at the very least no louder if not AS loud.

:y23: Could not stand looking at the little blue man any more. :y18:

Not a real flattering angle, but it does show the pipes well.

yeah, and the day i got them was the day the weather went to hell ! This weekend when it's back up to the high 70's i know what i'll be doing tho ! :ya2: (was nearly 100 this last weekend)

You can compare them to the longs in the pic in my signature link, tho the angle is different. But you can get an idea how much longer they are. the came out past the disc to the back wheel rim !

Man o man, I just found another bonus to these pipes, and it by itself is enough reason to warrant tossing the long tors or stocks in favor of these. Vibration !!! I know you wn't believe this or at least think i'm exaggerating, but the bike's vibration has decreased dramatically. At high speed especially. Before i would hit 80 and as soon as i got there the vibes would worsen and anything over 80 was on the verge of problematic, at least double what it is under 80. For short stretches you could deal with it, but you wouldn't want to go very long like that. Now it's actually LESS than it is under 80, and consider that under 80 it's slightly better too ! On the way to work on the freeway this morning i noticed it and had to (carefully) see how it did at high speeds. I took it to 95 which is effortless for this bike, but now feels even more effortless because it was so smooth that any smoother and you'd be wondering if the engine is on. i;d say it was smoother there than most anywhere else in the MPH/RPM range.

I can't begin to tell you haow big a change these pipes were to make this bike better. It's especially shocking when uyou consider that i had long tors before and the shorts are this much better, especially after triumph USA told me they would be exactly the same in every way except looks ! It's as tho i taded my Tbird in for a new improved model, and i gotta tell you i'm very excited ! Lets me sum up...

1-less weight
2-deeper mellower tone with a nice growl to it
3-better power
4-instant axl bolt access
5-much easier rear wheel cleaning
6-smoother, much less vibration
7-subjective, but everyone who sees them say better looking. me especially ! :ya2:

That is a very fine bonus. Less vibration, better sound, more power, and really good looks. I like those pipes. You did very well. :y115: And thanks for the pic. That is a beautiful bike.

Thank you Carl. Whats kind of disappointing is that i was going to get the shorties when i bought the bike but got the longs instead because i was afraid to change the looks that i loved. So i lost a years worth of riding with those benefits, and it turns out they look better after all. Oh well, at least it gave me a renewed interest in the bike a year in. Sorta like starting the honeymoon all over again. :ya2:
