Oh dear I fear I have caused a ruckus. :y15:
No rush Dave her B-day is not till July. However look at the adventure and fun you have had searching.......your like Indiana Jones searching for the Arc. :y2:
I think Carl mentioned you had a whip.....do you have the cool hat as well?

I must say I am very appreciative of everyones diligence and hard work. I did not expect this type of response. Just thought some spoons might be laying about in drawers or cupboards that could be sent as opposed to discarded. But this is truly a surprise.

Great work all. This truly is an amazing group of folks here.

:Champ: :Champ: Ok I have some and you find the coolest stuff in the strangest places.

This is the first one I got and was not that happy with being more one of those touristy things

Then someone mentioned that I should have a look at this antique shop

IMG-20130129-00082.jpg

So that I did and found these.

This one is from my home town and I recognized the crest straight off, Queenstown

These are just a few of others I found

This one seems to be from the 1938 steamer RMMV Athlone Castle

From Vanrhynsdorp SA

Now here is the kicker, this one I picked up and it intrigued me so I took it. I did a bit of research on it and I find one that recently sold online for 941.00 ZAR = 103.814 USD :y13: :y2:

Dave, only last night on the history station I watched a program on AS history and naturally the "Treck" featured. I must say that my knowledge of your history started from almost zero and now I know just a small bit more. The episode started with whites arriving and went to diamonds and then gold being found.

I'll follow your lead and check a couple of Old Wares stores and also check with my mother-in -law before I send the couple that I found on to Adrian.

I must say, this appears to have become fun, educational and down right interesting.......

Just never know what you guys are going to come up with. :y2:

Can't thank you all enough. Simply amazing :worthy:

It was very cool looking around this shop and I may just go back there as they had all sorts of spoons and other cool stuff. Kev if they have more on the SA history you may find it interesting so keep a watch out for it.

What's wrong with these OLD people who run secondhand shops?
Today I went into two and asked "Do you have any souvenir teaspoons?"
Answer from both, "Last week we had a lot of them."
Hello!!! Did I ask about last week. I don't give a stuff about last week unless I have my time travel machine with me. SAD
The answer is "No", or at a pinch "We've sold out".

Next shop that I try I'm going to ask "How many spoons did you have last week?" and then "Do you have any left?"

And yes Dave I'll be looking out for the next episode. As a taster they were suggesting the building on gold of Joburg was rapid and they had skyscrapers before London.

Well my place still has loads of spoons if that helps you at all :y2:

The gold and diamond rush produced some amazing leaps forward in our history so it should be an interesting one to watch

Got these from my mum.
One on the left is from Queensland, that's the north eastern Aust state, where Australian Rednecks come from. :y2:
On the right is a butter knife, possibly not acceptable? Let me know, no point in paying postage on it if not wanted. It's from a south coast fishing village called Bermagui.
Will try my in-laws later today and probably post off to you tomorrow.

Just got a call from the mother-in-law, she's found 49 spoons, on first sort she will be keeping 6 but will be doing a second sort with my wife later today. Don't know what will come of this but we may have to lease a container. :y13:

Well shipping by "tonnage" is cheaper :y2:
Your like the "spoon king" Kevin! I will leave it to your call. The butter knife is cool, and the tie in to "Rednecks" on the spoon certainly fits. But I know weight in shipping is an issue. Your efforts have been stellar to this point for sure. I just have some questions, do the Ausie rednecks say "ya'll and fixin to?" like us here? Do they collect critters and swim in "cement ponds"? If so we may have to hitch up the wagon and the critters and head down and set a spell.

ROTFL

Sharron just left for her mothers, only 10 minutes away.
She's under instruction to make sure the old girl keeps what may have some attachment and bring everything else back for assessment. Watch this space, probably about 2 hours.
Now park it and "set a spell".

Just making sure, the butter knife is to be sent?

Kevin, the butter knife is way cool, if you are o.k. with sending, by all means please do. I am most gracious for any findings at this point. Actually floored by the amazing response.

May have to "hit the hay" before the treasure hunt is complete. But will be round before the rooster crows to see what yer up to.

Sharron just arrived, the old girl kept a lot but have these to be posted today or tomorrow.
Will post a couple of closer photos, but it will take about 15 min to upload.

About half Australian and the rest from various OS trips the old girl's taken.
BTW, use of "the old girl" may or may not be disrespectful, it's in the tone and in this case it's in-between. :y15:
