Dave, all freezers have a ckocked cycle that thaws the bult up ice on the coils. It is a small heater in the back of the unit sometimes the clock stops at a point and will not thaw and sometimes it is the heater unit. I had a frig that had a ice maker and fortunatly the clock was located in it. I took it appart and operated the clock manually until I could find a replacement clock. You may want to poke around to see if you can gain access to these units.

Dave

Dave - I swear, some karma ran over your dogma at some stage. You have such bad luck! Post it on Hello Peter and see whether they come back at ya!

Well they did see a few post back and they are going to fix it under warranty even though it is out of warranty BGRIN

Dave this is the freezer part and it never iced up before in three years. It is doing this because it is sucking in air between the door and the seal. You can see the ice building up on the side that is leaking

Thats good. Some companies will do that even if the issue started out of warranty by not too far. Triumph being one. This one however sounds like they wouldn't have except for the fact the issue started in warranty and was never truly fixed. I had a TV that died literally a month out of warranty due to a defect in the design that was happening to a lot of people. They refused. I told them i would never buy thier products again and always mention it whenever possible online. So in keeping with that promise, NEVER BUY A VIZIO TV !!!! They are junk. There are rampant numbers of people who had to toss thiers shortly after warranty and i was one of them. They're a little cheaper than major brands, but in the long run they are WAY more expensive.

I hate companies like that and would love to see them fail due to thier horrible CS.

Well my one was over a year out of warranty when it started acting up so as I say I was not worried about having to pay for it but I want it fixed. I always stick to well known brands because of the quality they give

Just a bit of an update here. After speaking with Samsung a few weeks back they decided to do a buy back on my fridge and give me a new one. So I am rather going with another model as I now do not trust the one I have. So they did a cost analysis and gave me a quote on the new one and it turned out to be a third of going price of that model. So now I am waiting delivery of my new fridge freezer this afternoon :y2:

Well it seems that Samsung Fridges are not the way to go as this new one (1year 6 months old) the fan is now giving up in the fridge SAD

I sure hope you're just having a bad run and they are actually OK.

Last week I got this one for my daughters new kitchen install (1st photo).
It replaces this one now in her garage, about 6 years old and still going strong (2nd photo).

I've also just bought the Samsung French door with the fridge drawer. I note the motor comes with a 10yr warranty. But I really love this fridge - runs at 1/3 of the cost of my Bosch (which is still in great nick and in the garage). I love my new fridge - the fridge drawer is such a bonus because the much-used stuff lives here so instead of the upright doors being opened all the time and cold air gushing out, the drawer is way more efficient.

Kev the one you got is the one I originally had the door leaking issue with. I phoned them this morning and told them what the issue was and they will be here on Monday to have a look. They did say it sounds like the thermostat that has gone and this could be due to a power fail. Hmmm ... thinking about it I did trip the power the other day and this only started after that :y10:

I am going to have a look for a new fridge for my mother in laws kitchen today, maybe I will check out the LG range

Dave, stay away from LG. Seriously! My staff member had an LG fridge, DVD player, TV, microwave - all appliances were LG. Over the last 2 years, EVERY one of them has packed up and the service from LG was abysmal. Her appliances were all under 5 years old!

Look at a Bosch instead. Really excellent product. Farside's Bosch is over 25 years old and still going strong - we just donated it to someone who needed a fridge. Defy is not what it used to be in SA anymore. Maybe abroad but definitely not locally. Have a look at a Bosch and let me know what you think. Failing which, you can buy my Bosch that is now in the garage but in perfect condition :y2:

I'll second the comments on LG. I was talking to a local appliance repairman and he said he LOVES LG, makes tons of money off of them. The brands he hates are Samsung, Kenmore, and Bosch because he never makes any money off of them. I've never heard of Defy so can't comment on them.
