You might recall I modified my stock silencer a while back with great results....

Due to the fact that all the welding I did was stick arc, and the fact that I am by no means a decent welder....
well the welds caused cracking nearby and therefore leaks. The material is *very* thin and I think with the heat from welding it caused metal fatigue.
In hindsight I should have taken the whole thing into work and tig welded it properly. Oh well..... live and learn.

I decided to splash out on a new silencer, phoned around and found the Leo Vince stainless going for R4400, now last year the Arrow was R7000 so I reckon it's a good deal.

Picked it up a couple of hours later...

Picture of the business end.

What, whats that in there. Oh my it's a db killer.

Right, we'll get rid of that for a start, why would you leave that in?

It is very effective in making it quieter. Like I said. WHY?

's better

Fitted on, took about ten minutes. (The shop wanted an hour labour!!?? Then another hour for the map. Slow pokes or Dick Turpin?)

Sounds very nice, perhaps not as deep growl as my modified stock, but it's throaty and free breathing.

I have a 'through pipe' map on the bike that I wrote earlier this year, gonna leave it be for now.

Weights....
This was one of the reasons for getting this too. The silencer sits quite high up on the bike, and mine weighed 6.5kg.
The replacement is under 3kg so handling should improve too.

Okay, well that's what I been up to.

Oh yeah, replace the brake pads on the rear too, f$ck me, easiest job ever. lol

It looks really godd. I hear really good things about the Vince. If my XC had not come with the Arrow can, I would have gone with a Vince. The nice thing about the Vince is that you can run the standard map which yields better fuel consumption that the Arrow does.

That looks really nice G. Will replace my original with one of those one day, however too many other projects happening sucking up my play money. Just can't beat the triple music. :y2:

The OP has left something out of his post.

I spend a lot of time following this Tiger 800. It is noisy and has unrestrained flatulance; it pops & f*rts and backfires very loudly whenever young g shuts the throttle (thankfully he doesn't do this very often)....

G, some of the guys drill holes in the Db killer and then put it back in. I am thinking of doing this with my Arrow can. It is too loud for me with the Db killer out; I am going to drill a hole try it and maybe drill another until I get the level of sound I want.

Carl, why don't you mod the original muffler the way avion did?

He used all his engineering knowhow to do a most professional job.

....

He rammed a steel pipe up the muffler's baffles and wellied it with a lump hammer! ROTFLROTFL

carl, I have an inner cap but it does have a small length of pipe on it, maybe 3 inches.

you can adjust the length of that pipe, which will alter the tone. well, with an angle grinder or hacksaw.

I was wondering if they are drilling holes in that piece of pipe or the flange (cap).

That is essentially the way I modified my Bonneville's stock pipes - except I used a 1/2" drill bit welded to a long steel rod. BGRIN

I have the Arrow can and I tried with the db killer out and it was too loud. I am considering taking it out and drilling a hole or two in it to see how it sounds.
