I just got off the phone with CarlS. He told me that he went for an unscheduled "slide" down Hwy 441 today. Apparently, the car in front of him...a large SUV came to a sudden stop to avoid another vehicle making a left turn in front of the SUV. Unfortunately for Carl, the SUV had no brake lights, so by the time Carl realized the SUV driver had hit the brakes hard, Carl was rapidly approaching the SUV.

He told me that he did not hit the vehicle, but, when he hit his rear brake hard, he ended up high-siding, breaking the windshield and sliding down the road. He wore through the sleeve of his riding jacket, destroyed the knee pad of his riding pants and scraped up the face shield and chin area of his full face helmet. He damaged his foot, possible fracture, and ended up with some road rash, but, overall, ended up in much better condition than he could have been in.

He had just got MaeLyne's bike out of the shop and was riding it when this happened. Poor MaeLyne...will she ever get her bike back??????

Please join me in saying a few prayers of thanks for the fact that he wears full protection all the time and that the Man Upstairs was looking over him through this whole ordeal.

Just thought you all should be aware of this.

Bob

I just got off the telephone and spoke to Carl and Mae Lynn. It could have been a lot worse. Carl has a hairline ankle fracture and is sore but will be fine. The bike needs new brake levers and a throttle and has a bit of cosmetic damage. At leat it will be up and running for Mae Lynn soon.

Mae and Carl it it time for some GOOD luck to come your way.

Bloody heck......I just called and cant get hold of him...hopefully he's OK. Thank God he didn't slam in the back of the motor in front.

Prayers go out for sure.

Ride Safe

Bluddy Hell Carl

Quick recovery please and stop scaring the bejesus out of us. :y26:

Jeez, that's a crappy start to the year. Heal up quick Carl - the bike can get mended, no worries.
I can only think that it was Carl's experience that helped him miss the cage.

Get well soon mate.

...

Carl, Just read this post and thankful you never suffered any serious injuries. Pity about Mae Lynns bike but that can be fixed Have you got a few choice words for the SUV driver

Thanks for the report, shyguy.
When I read the title of the thread a chill went trough my body and I was fearing the worst.
As a fairly recent crash victim I know what it feels like and to be banged up.
I'm glad to hear that it's not more serious than it is.
Heal up fast Carl.

Got a hold of Carl little after I posted I had not heard anything....he's doing OK considering he has shredded his ride gear. He's in good spirits and I said the same as some of you have....the bike can be fixed. It must of slid right because no damage to the tank. The ENT's that turned up all rode bikes. Carl asked them if the bike was ridable.....they said not for you today its not. Funny how we all think of our bikes first. He has a hairline fracture in the foot and can't use crouches because of the pain down his side.

I'm sure he will come on and give his report today at some stage.

Ride Safe guys

I plan to call Carl later this morning to check on him, and I will let you know of any new developments. I am sure he will feel very thankful for all the good wishes from all of you. Thanks, on his behalf, for your thoughts and prayers.

Bob

Carl, my prayers and thoughts with you and Mae-Lynn. Just thankful it wasn't worse. Take care Old Soldier.
Thank you guys for keeping us informed

I am sooooo very grateful to all of our Triumph Talk family! You all are the best. Thank you all for the prayers and, yes, the good Lord does listen.

Let me try and explain what happened. My bike was finaly repaired; and so we went to Ocala to pick her up. We stoped and got gas, and Carl was telling me how great she was riding. Being Carl he said "you could out drag me with this motor" We continued on our way. I belive we we on 441 when a lady was making a left turn, there was a large SUV behind her. He had no brake lights that worked. Carl hit the brakes hard and started to fish tail, He almost got it under control; but, unfortunately, didn't. As this was happening I put my flashers on and got in the midlle of both lanes. Carl high sided the bike, did another flip then skided to a stop. I got out of my truck and ran to him. He was knocked out for a couple of seconds. Needles to say I started hollering at the poor woman making the left, it was not her fault. There was another vehicle on the right that started to use his flaser to stop the vehicle that actuall was at fault for the crash. I was by Carl and for a couple of seconds he was a lillte incoherent. I imediately started praying for him. We were so blessed there was an EMT guy that stopped and also 2 nurses. Carl kept trying to get up when I told just to lay there still, I had traffic blocked. The man with no brake lights came up and I told him calmly he needed to get them checked they were NOT working; he yelled at me they were. When Carl became more aware he told me, "my elbow hurts" I said it would be ok just please lie still. Then bless his heart his next words were "Oh honey, I'm so sorry about your bike!" I told him all I cared about was for him to be well, he was not replaceable. There were so many "angels" there to help. When the rescue showed up and took care of Carl, one came up and wanted to know if I was on the back of the bike. I told him no I was in the truck and it was my husband, but, of course, by then I was shaking so bad.

I had to wait until the state trooper showed up before I could leave, and of course that took forever! The family that got the SUV to stop and a really nice deputy loaded my bike in the back of my truck. I was too shook up when they tried to tell me where the hospital was, but I managd to find it. By the time I got there , they had a fiberglass cast on Cark's right ankel and he was pretty much ready to leave.

Sorry everyone; this is so long winded, but, truly, the moral of this story is thank God for protecive gear. The shoulder of Carl's jacket and the elbow are shredded all of the way into the armored pads. On his riding pants the right knee was shreaded also. His helmet {and thank God he had a full face one on) was scraped along the visor from the chin bar upt to above the visor.

Ya all are sooo awesome and I'm proud to stand next to you, in front of you or behind you. Please keep the prayers comeing. I know the next few days are going to be rough on him. He has crutches the problem is his right side hurts so bad as of now they are painful to use.

Thank you for all the phone calls. I love you all very much. Will try and keep you posted.

Carl is still sleeping (which is a ggod thing, so he can heal) I'm sure he will be writting in the forum when he awakens.
And YES prayers always work. I have to check on my patient. God bless you all.

Mae Lyne this must have been dreadful for you seeing it all go down right in front of you. Just like Carl to think of others before himself. Thanks for the in depth post on this as being on the other side of the pond our communication is a bit limited to say the least. Glad to hear that Carl is doing ok well as ok as he can be at this stage prayers and thought for you both and a swift recovery :y18:

Mae Lyne, in addition to all the prayers and concerns for Carl, let me compliment you for having the quick response of blocking traffic so quickly. Frequently, riders are injured far more seriously AFTER coming off the bike, being hit by other traffic. You did great, and I know Carl is very proud of you for that.
I am flattered that Carl called me to let me know about the incident, and, trust me, it is a pleasure to try and keep everyone informed as best I can.

If you folks need anything at all, do not hesitate to call. I am only a phone call away.

Bob

Mae Lyne- Terrible news, so glad it wasn't worse. Thank God for his riding gear, and you being right there. I know it was traumatic for you, happening right in front of you like that. Was the driver with no brake lights ticketed? Here's hoping for a speedy recovery.
