Know this is a silly question, but did The 95 Triumph Thunderbird ever come as an option engine protection bars? If so does anyone have a set they want to find a new home for these bars?

I seem to remember an article on a Thunderbird 900 in one of the UK magazines a few years ago- maybe "Classic Bike Guide"? (used to have a subscription) that had those "crash bars" on it. Will try to find my copy

Thank you! Trust all is well with you?

YES! In December 2016 copy of UK magazine "Classic Bike Guide" pgs 102-108 are photos of a 1995 model year Thunderbird 900 with a set of accessory "crash bars" along with some other chrome accessory bits. Upper mounting is to large "Torx" bolt between rad and cyl. head on each side. From there, on L/H, a tube runs down to join an angled horizontal tube that runs from L/H mounting at large "Torx" fastener above sprocket cover just to rear of starter. This horizontal tube wraps around front of engine to R/H side where it angles upward to join R/H vertical tube and on to large "Torx" above clutch cover. I'll try to post photo. Overall, I guess it would prevent damage to engine covers in a tip over or very mild spill, sacrificing the crash bar, but could, in more serious crash, provide enough leverage to twist the frame and that would be more $$$$$ than replacing the engine covers- six of one- half dozen of the other. Plus, finding one is likely near impossible. And aesthetically- I don't know if it improves the looks of the bike- kind of adds that touch of "grandpa". But, it would be nice to have something to attach a small pair of "highway 'pegs" to allowing a bit of stretch- out room for my 74 yr. old knees on a long ride!

Good evening Dearborn,

Thank you for the follow up and I will go into my library and see if I have this issue, but something tells me not!

I know that Hepco & Becker in Germany still make these crash/protection bars for the Thunderbird, but it was cost prohibited when you convert Canadian Dollars to Euro Dollars, Shipping, Duty and Taxes To order directly. One would have to almost apply for a second if not a third mortgage:-(

Was in the family room the other night and I discovered a Hepco & Becker distributor in Edmonton Alberta and sent off an inquiry to see if they have any in stock? Came back and no luck, but was told that they can order the bars in from Germany with no hassle and much cheaper than buying directly! Not sure why this is, but took a leap of faith and put down a Visa # and I should see the item towards the end of April. Once I get my hot little hands on the package, will make a story to add to this thread to give light that even with our 28 year old rides, parts are still out there and I am willing to help others in finding them.

Happy Easter to all who read this thread and stay safe!

GREAT! Please keep us posted om price/shipping/fit.

Seems to blend in nicely and not look like an add on.
Good day, Finally had time this past week and installed the Hepco Becker Tip/Crash Bars. Took some photos this afternoon while cleaning out the garage (car shed). What do you think.

Also, if you notice my reshaped seat as it doesn’t have the deep bow!

Greyfell, They are one and the same as mine!
I had a senior Triumph mechanic in the shop earlier this week helping me sort out some carburetor issues and he remarked the the engine protection guards were well designed and made in that they fit perfectly!
