You might look at the wiring circuit diagram and see if the headlight power is run through the ignition barrel (like the early Rockets). The 55 watt pull managed to overheat the solder connections.

Probably for the same reason most people don't learn what they believe they don't need to know. I had to learn both math and electric schematics for my job after college. If you want to know about a circuit on a scheme (or diagram) just ask. Motorcycles are not nearly as complex as the Engineered Safeguards Actuation Systems of a nuclear power plant.
