Carl, I was thinking about you last evening and was hoping you were far enough away from the storm.
Great you hear you came through barely touched.

If the storm track holds as predicted, it looks like it won't come up the coast to us.

I've visited Florida, and it's a wonderful state to live in, but at times like these I think I'll stay here and put up with the ice and snow ROTFL
Thank you, Rocky. I have no damage, thankfully. I put my flags back up this morning. As long as one does not live right on the coast, one can put up with a hurricane which only last a day or so. However, snow and ice last much longer and you have to shovel it! :y44:

Carl, I heard from someone on X.com (Twitter) that Roy's in Steinhatchee has suffered severe damage, and she wanted to know about Kathi's Krab Shack.

I did know about Roy"s; I saw it in the >%news this morning. I have no idea about the Krab Shack. I will try to find out. That area was ground zero was hit hard. It may be a few days before I can get any info. I'd ride up there to look; but that's seven hours from me onevway and there is no electricity on that whole county.

I don't think it requires a 7-hour oneway ride to find out. I'm sure it'll be in the news soon if something did happen. Or, one could confirm, possibly, with a phone call. In fact, no answer via phone, but at 10:30PM that doesn't surprise me, so I sent a brief email asking for a short, quick reply. Finding Kathi's website told me Roy's and Kathi's are in the same area. But, these storms can be fickle, destroying one location while leaving another virtually undisturbed.

A lot of folks and small businesses these days no longer have land lines. If the storm itself didn't damage a tower, the tower will need electricity to keep going. Even the landline switches will need a generator or power restored to function.

The first priority in restoring communications is law enforcement and emergency responders. And such is part of disaster planning and preparation. Thus it may be a while before we know about a particular business.

We had rain all day Friday so things looking much better today . Can’t help thinking about how our little cabin in Tellico Plains Tennessee is doing . It’s deck was next to a popular tubing water way . According to the news flooding is very serious for that part of the Appalachians

Awesome view! How often do y’all go there? Look like a fun getaway hideout.

Goofed up again the cabin is at GSM Motorcycle Rentals in Townsend Tenn , about an hour from Tellico Plains which does have good facilities for bikers lodging. The cabin is a one of at GSM although Dan , the owner , was just finishing up a Caboose last time we visited. Their primary business is adv motorcycle rentals , and tours . The have everything from 125 cc up to the latest big BMW GS . If you have your bike he can also do routine service for you . If you want the cabin probably have to book way ahead .

That's also right near the entrance to Cades Cove, a huge natural and historic National Park attraction.

I received the following from a cousin in North Carolina.

The following is.from me. Two lanes of Interstate 40 through the mountains have been washed out into the Pigeon River. Other parts of I-40 are buried by landslides.

It’s wonderful riding country in that area but certainly lends itself to severe damage in heavy rain events as well .
Well it certainly looks beautiful and it’s wonderful to have a “temporarily yours” cabin to go to. It’s the best of all options, no maintenance just reserve early to get your place when you want it.

Tropical Storm Milton is on the way to visit Florida as a hurricane, probably a Cat 3. The latest track.has it coming ashore in the Tampa Bay area, following I-4 to Orlando and then going back out to sea just north of Cape Canaveral. On this track it will hit every single one of the major theme parks in Central Florida. That includes the Cape Canaveral Visitor Center.

This track puts me right inside of the Southern edge of the tropical storm cone. So far I have no plans to evacuate I will write it out. Unless the track shifts back south then I might decide I have to leave.

Stay vigilant! I’ve been following it as well and it’s not looking good. At the moment Tampa seems in the center of the cone of uncertainty.
