I got two inches of rain of rain Sunday and 0.25 inches Saturday. Right now I'm watching potential hurricane Helene which will bring me elevated rain chances over the next two days.

Stay safe in Florida, looks like y’all will get a storm soon.
I'm in one of the very few counties in Florida NOT under a state of emergency. She just became Tropical Storm Helene.

We, in the tip of SE Florida were spared. We did get tropical storm force winds gusting to 55 mph; but we received little rain and no flooding except right on the coast. The center of the storm is now north of us. Helene is now an extremely dangerous category 4 hurricane.

I remained in my manufactured home and did not evacuate. I never lost power. The tropical storm wind field is now north of us. It is plenty breezy; but the winds are diminishing.

The west coast of Florida got hit hit hard with tidal surge.

As you can see in the graphic, all of Florida, Georgia, and South Carolina are under tropical storm warning or hurricane warning.

Saw a photo on Twitter of the utility trucks staged in one (of many, I'm sure) area, ready to move out and find and/or repair any downed line or poles/towers. I ever saw anything like that here in CA, but we rarely have to worry about sever wind storms, just fires. Have to give your utility companies, and your governor, kudos for being so prepared!

Many states have inter service agreements to help each other in natural disasters. It's just a way of life. FEMA normally pays for this restoration of services.

Agreements with neighbors (states or companies) are a natural (I would hope) process to have in your area. I am sure such agreements would also be found in the mountain states, and Cal-Neva. After a couple of decades of experience with natural "disasters", such agreements should be a "natural" result.

Florida and Texas have led the way in organizing and preparing for natural disasters. Florida has prepositioned stockpiles of emergency supplies such as water, food, first aid, etc. Here, state law mandates that service stations and, I think, grocery stores have emergency generators. This also applies to nursing homes and hospitals.

Disaster plans at state. county and city level are laid out and rehearsed annually. This includes representatives from the private sector. When the governor declares a State of Emergency, tolls are suspended for all vehicles involved in relief work. Weight restrictions on trucks are suspended and law enforcement is detailed to assist getting supplies through.

Florida has regularly sent fire fighters to California and other states. Those states in turn have sent fire fighters to Florida.

Carl, I was thinking about you last evening and was hoping you were far enough away from the storm.
Great you hear you came through barely touched.

If the storm track holds as predicted, it looks like it won't come up the coast to us.

I've visited Florida, and it's a wonderful state to live in, but at times like these I think I'll stay here and put up with the ice and snow ROTFL
