Yeah thanks for the update. I wonder why they are hanging onto the release of the 1600
I think the bike was going to be a 5 speed but Harley recently released a 6 speed and so Triumph has changed the bike to 6 speed and they now need to iron out any bugs and do alot of re testng.

Well check this out those of you who hate big bikes. (Dave, listen up:)) Someone at BA said a dealer who was at the meeting where triumph unveiled the 1600 told him the bike is about the size of the 900 cruisers. If thats tru this bike will be even better. Imagine a bike that handles like a speedy but has 110 HP. Hold on a sec....gotta pick my jaw up off the floor.

heres what he said....

Dammit....my jaw seems stuck there. :oh: I wonder if i could somehow sleep for a year straight.....

Sorry guys
I sat on the Thunderbird and she is bigger than the Speedy .Don't worry she is wonderful and you will all like her

What size is the new 1600 in relation to the Speedmaster
[/quote

I would say between the speedy and the Rocket.

Thats great news because i actually don't know that a speedy sized bike with that much torque and HP would be quite as safe. I think some heft would be more stable and will also make freeway cruising dead stable. And if the rocket had been that size/weight i would have had a much harder time saying no to it. Glad i did now thos ! At this point only the rear fender bothers me and i think that would now be my only *necessary* mod. You gotta admit, whether it looks HD or Jap to you, you can't deny with just a change in color and removing the pillion seat (oh yea...another thing i'd do to it) the bike looks awful sleek ! Oh....one more thing....change the tank badge to one like the speedy ! (i think i know how you could)

This is crazy, but while i'd prefer no console and traditionally mounted tach and speedo, i've actually come to like the look as it is ! The console looks sleek and i wonder if W/O it the lines wouldn't be quite as nice. I removed it in PS at one point and thought it wasn't quite right looking, but couldn't be sure.
By the way, a guy at BA who months ago got a bunch of info about the bike from a inside source he had, and turned out to be dead on correct, just posted this little bit of info from that same source that may mean VERY good things...

there will be variations on the model although he wasn't at liberty to disclose that information

If they do a touring version I hope they go all out and do it right. To compete within class the bike will need a fairing, heated seats and grips, hard bags, a stereo, cruise control and electrically adjustable windscreen.

If not they will surely have all those things as accessories. But if they have more models no doubt that will be one of them, at least with many of those details.

You don’t think if they did all this they would out price themselves in this class
Probably not because the base price is going to be WAY under a HD with that setup. Probably 1/2. So adding all that would probably only add another 2-4k to the cost which would still be less than even the lowest HD even w/o a tour package aside from sportys. Aside from sportys, harleys generally start at close to 20k USD without anything but the basic bike. In US dollars that would be double the cost of a new speedy. So if they compete with HD with this bike, they can do so w/o worry about pricing. They'll still beat HD by a mile when it comes to cost. I just hope the finish quality is going to be as good as HD, because thats a big selling point and i think a lot of them won't jump ship if thats not happening. After all, a lot of HD riders are more into showing thier bikes at hangouts more than riding a lot.

By the way, theres one other mod i'd do right off the bat which i forgot to mention....drag bars !!! No bike looks right to me w/o them anymore ! (darn speedmaster has corrupted me )

Well as far as the price of the HD goes this side there is no way I would ever be able to afford one, I could most likely get a Rocket for the same price as the more basic HD. They do have an amazing finish and I would love to be able to have a ride on one sometime. However you may be right as far as the mods being available and still being under the HD price range. I would have to think very carefully if I did purchase one on what other mods I would purchase as it may just start running away with you and when you look again you have sent plenty cash on just upgrades

I agree, Dave. I can live with the fender; but I would prefer the clocks on the handle bars. But keep in mind that old cruisers, both American and British, had tank mounted instruments - HD, Indian, Vincent, etc.

You must be forgetting about the Dyna line of bikes. There are also many soft-tails under 20K.
