My dealer just arrived from Hinckley where he saw the Thunderbird 1600. He tells me that they have there three pre-production bikes (the ones on the photos) but that this is not the final configuration. Moreover this model will only be launched in September 2009 for the 2010 range at the same time as the expected Tiger 675 (Cub?). There are also projects for a 2010 Trophy touring bike to compete with the BMW R1200RT, Moto Guzzi Norge and the likes.
New for 2009:
- Bonneville “50th anniversary celebrationâ€. 650 (6 for Belgium) T100 with a few cosmetic changes.
- 2009 Bonneville: Short front and rear mudguards (similar to the Scrambler and Thruxton).
- Bonneville SE: As above with light alloy wheels.
- Street Triple R: Same specifications as the Daytona 675 (power, brakes etc.)
... And that is all Folks... :y22:

Also new for 2009 is the layout of the catalogues which are a bit smaller (between A4 and A5 size) but thicker.
Now “Motorbikes†and “Accessories†will come in one single book.
I saw them and I think it is a good improvement. :y115:

this is not the final configuration

that is great news because it means that if they read the forums, and i'm positive they do, they will see that almost to a man no one likes the tank and nacelle or console whatever it's called. And that they want traditionally mounted instruments and a less HD looking tank. Now if they are aiming at HD riders with this bike, they may do well to leave that. But on the other hand if they alienate all the triumph guys that would want a bigger speedy/america, they may lose more sales there then they gain from the HD crowd. Personally i don't feel they will steal many HD guys away from thier beloved american ponies. Especially since most of them already have HD tattos and would have to get them burned off, not to mention throw away about 10 grand worth of embroidered leather. :y24:

But seriously i think it's the jap cruiser guys they may attract. But i still think the biggest chunk of sales will come from those who are already triumph fans because with the right look i think a huge part of the america/speedy crowd would move up to the 1600 if it looked like a speedy or america. I bet even a lot of R3 guys too. In fact i already saw a few saying they would.

So hopefully the final configuration will reflect what they've been reading at the triumph forums. Gimmie a brit looking paint job and dump the nacelle with speedo and tach above the bars and i'm in and in big ! I'll hock everything i own if i have to and even consider a nut. Well, the right one anyways.

I hope they make some serious bodywork changes. The engine is going to be FUN. It should have good power and be a torque monster.

Yep, and the torque is what i'm after. The rocket was insanely fun in that regard, but i just didn't like much else about it. Torque is king in my book. And your right...that is gonna be a really really really FUN engine. As awesome as the R3 was, i sorely missed that pulsing sound and feeling the individual right and left cylinder pulses of a P twin to the point that when i rode home on my speedy it made me appriciate it a lot more. I can only imagine that feel and sound coupled with 100Ft lbs of torque to go with it and smooth unlike a HD ! Lord have mercy !!! Thats gotta be an experience no other bike on earth has ever offered.

Well check this out those of you who hate big bikes. (Dave, listen up:)) Someone at BA said a dealer who was at the meeting where triumph unveiled the 1600 told him the bike is about the size of the 900 cruisers. If thats tru this bike will be even better. Imagine a bike that handles like a speedy but has 110 HP. Hold on a sec....gotta pick my jaw up off the floor.

heres what he said....

I stopped in to the Triumph/Ducati/BMW dealer in Hartford after my appointments this evening and spoke with the manager, who had been one of the crowd to see the new T-Bird. He said that it was about the size of an America with slightly larger wheels on the back and that it looked better in person than in the photos posted on the net.

Dammit....my jaw seems stuck there. :oh: I wonder if i could somehow sleep for a year straight.....

 Thats really a biggie for you huh Dave? I kinda wouldn't mind a bit bigger. In fact i think i'd like it. Something really exciting about being on a huge monster that i liked about the R3, but it was just TOO huge. So something 1/2 way between would be nice. But looking at those pics and playing with them in photoshop I've truly become obsessed. I'm helplessly in lust with this thing. Big small, harley accents, whatever. I gotta have it ! Boy what a change from a week ago.

The thing is I find with the bigger bikes you are limited to what you able to do in traffic. Remember we lane split this side big time. So moving a huge bike between cars is always an issue. I was surprised at how easily I can do this with the Speedy

I have just arrived back and have seen all the bikes and can say without exeption ,they are all great. The Cruiser is 99 % final and it looks tops .Any dealer who says a Tiger Cub is on the cars for a 2010 release is talking crap !.It was not discussed or even hinted about .It will happen in the future but not in 2010.A tourer maybe

The cruiser does NOT look like an America on steriods. This bike will sell well .
One thing that surprised everyone was that it will be belt drive?!

bye
