Well this morning coming to work it was 11c so by about 10am it should be around 19c or so. I think with us living in a hot climate overall we are just not able to handle any slight dip in temperature

I agree with Dave about not putting in a full heating system. Dave lives in a very temperate climate and this winter has been unusual for that area.
In Johannesburg, it's a little different - we do have a very cold, dry winter. We often go the minuses over-night, around -3 to -5c but the days are pretty good. Clear blue skies, sunshine every day, no rain - but this winter has been a bit a different. We've had rain and hail up here in Jozie. We use a gas heater and have 2 wood-burning fireplaces - the fireplaces really do the trick - can still feel the warmth the next morning. We have under-floor heating too which we never turn on - sends the electricity bill through the roof.
For about 3 weeks out of year of cold weather, a full heating system is not worth the cost for us in SA. Our houses are built for summer living - 9months of it

Me too! Apparently we're going to see 23c this Saturday! Jasmine and magnolia blooming, tomatoes almost ripe - does this mean Spring/Summer is around the corner? WooHoo!

When I mentioned a heating system, I was not necessarily talking about a full heating system - unless you go to a heat pump (part of the a/s system). I was thinking of a couple of portable heaters. In North Carolina, we have three portable electric heaters and one kerosene heater. They keep the farmhouse cozy.
I do have a few of those portable heaters I just don't know where I hid them

Well Johannesburg went from +-22c yesterday to an overnight low of -3c with a daytime high of between 8 & 11c today! It's snowing in much of the country and where it's not snowing, there's howling wind and pelting rain! BUT, it is snowing in some parts of Johannesburg!

Thanks for posting Silli! It's starting to look as if my little thatch roof 'office' is going to get a sprinkling of that white stuff today. If the wind drops, it's a real possibility! I HATE THE COLD! ANYTHING UNDER 25C CALLS FOR EMERGENCY ACTION! Like hot Irish Coffee!

I'm in my (heated ) office in northern Jozi and my Smartphone is telling me it's +1C outside. We've had some dark clouds blow over at high speed this morning but no snow yet. I'm also wearing my full length thermal longjohns today!

It's snowing (lightly) at Farside's office, at my son's school and there are tiny little white flakes drifting down on my thatch roof at home!
