Atomsplitter what a great idea. Hopefully there is an appropriate adapter in my leakdown test kit to try this. It is far less extreme than some ideas I have been mulling over.

Make sure the valves are closed on the cylinder. While blowing in air, I would still tap with the wood block and mallet upwards. Might need to be a two man operation. One holding the air and the other with the mechanical action.

If you have a threaded air adapter that matches the spark plug you can rig a hose to the cylinder with clamps. Might give you the best chance. Still think you’ll end up up tapping on it regardless of the method used.

Think you’ll need adapter of some type like these to attach to your air compressor hose.

I'm sure NOT liking this.

I'd say that heating the head with a small propane torch then whacking with a hunk of wood and mallet on the exhaust & intakes SHOULD pop it loose.

If you have two mates available, get one to hold, one to whack, and one of you hold the torch. If you've a 3rd mate, have him twist on a screwdriver whose tip is only slightly wider than the gap between the head & cylinder fins (in other words, it slips in easily in the horizontal, and only starts to bind once the flat starts rotating to vertical). NOT pry, just twist. Preferably a square-shank screwdriver to that you can twist it with an adjustable spanner to get some serious leverage on it. Shouldn't be any risk of damaging fins.

Sounds like someone used red Loctite on the gasket if it won't break loose.

Some great ideas, most of which I have tried with no luck.

I have an idea about getting the head off that came to me having read a few different posts on here. If you followed my previous thread on a build, I am expecting to use the same type of method as I used to free the pistons, once I have the barrels and head off.


But I am moving on with it now. I have taken the engine out so it doesn't get in the way of me doing some work on the frame.

Anyway here is my progress so far..
