I don't know if there are any old style headers made for the 750, and they are a bit smaller diameter, plus they use a different mounting spigot in the head. I think I recall seeing spigot adapters somewhere that would adapt old to newer, but I would have to research that.

That's what I was afraid of.

If you don't mind, please do some research on those adapters. I'll try looking too.

I know where I can buy the inserts, but if I need to change the entire system, I'd need the spigot adapters.

I really like the 750 looks like it is in very good condition.

Yeah, I think it's worth the extra money for a bike that would require actually nothing at all. I plan on asking the guy if he still has the original air boxes, just to have......just in case. I would only be adding the older style exhaust system for my own personal taste...and perhaps a set of fork gaiters.

I have the 1969 Tiger, but I don't ride it.

Whatever bike I buy, this one is to ride. Having 100 more cc, and front and rear discs might be a good idea if I'm going to ride it on today's roads with all the idiots in cages out there.

I love the Trophy, but I sometimes get the urge to be riding a standard classic style bike without all the bodywork.

That's a real nice B lack & red 750, but there might still be better deals.

Check out other forum "classics, vintage & veteran" section, in the "Bikes and Parts for sale" sticky thread; there were a couple of unbelievable deals in there that haven't yet been pulled, so I think they're still available...

Thanks GP but I will only consider bikes that I can actually go and see in person. It's not even as much a question of paying to have it transported, but if the guy is a complete stranger to me (unlike you), I want to be able to start it and go over it with a fine-tooth comb.

By the way....do you happen to know anything about those header pipe adapters for putting the classic style pipes and silencers on a 750?

There are several good pipe adapter kits out there, but I'm not intimately familiar with them.

I can't help but think this may be the best deal I've seen in quite a while:

Hmmm.....I notice that the last one you pictured there in Ohio has the upswept header pipes with the cigar style silencers and it doesn't look bad that way.

So to do that I'd only need the inserts to make up the difference in pipe diameters. I hope that the silencer mounts would work OK together (or maybe a universal chrome strap?).

From the dates of those posts, I'd guess that at least the first two bikes are already sold and the one in Ohio is actually more money than the one I'm interested in.

Well, the first hurdle has been crossed.....finding the bike.

And now the second hurdle was successfully crossed.....getting the OK from my Wife!

It was much easier than I thought it might be. I figured she was going to say....."ANOTHER MOTORCYCLE!?"

Instead, she just said "well, then do it".

It was rather anti-climactic actually....... :y115:

...then again, this is probably every bit as good a deal (in the same thread)...

This one is a stunner isn't it?

I found myself drooling over that photo, and then I realized "what am I drooling over? I already have that bike in red!"

It sure does look nice in that green with that backdrop though...

I know what you guys mean! I'm liking the black and gold, and it's pretty much exactly like mine. Just a paint job away anyway.

That's about how I'd like the '87 Bonnie to look if I buy it. I'm pretty certain I will unless something major happens when I go to check it out.

Will the same fork gaiters as earlier models (pre-1971) fit right onto the 750's or are those a special size?

I may also add the rubber knee pads at some point.
