He's been doing it since he was 3 or 4 and is now 17. His older (half) brother was riding and he wanted to do it so my brother got him one of the boards with a handle on it so he could ride it easier. The handle was a bad idea in Dakota's mind. The handle had to be removed before he would even touch it. . . and as they say, the rest is history. Some of the video (the part with the trees) was shot in the city skate park but I'm not sure where the other parks are located.

I've got to hand it to the kids, they went to the city and requested the park. They pointed out how there was an under used park that had the space, wasn't too near any neighborhoods and several other items that would make it good for a park. They compiled a list of the kids in the area that would use the park and had the names of a lot of local business owners that were willing to back the kids in the construction. They also had the support of the business owners in getting them away from the downtown area where they weren't welcome to ride. When the request was presented to the city council, they had all the T's crossed and I's dotted. I read a comment in the paper that it was one of the best presentations ever given before the council.

Top effort. TUP
Its a refreshing change to see modern youth getting out there and campaigning for something rather than hang around bellyaching that there is nothing to do or nowhere to go.
