One of the many fun things I've done over the years was this flight in a Stearman training plane.
My wife and I were in Ottawa for a few days and I went over to the National Aviation Museum which is at Rockcliff Airport. I love planes and warbirds in particular.
The fellow who owns the Stearman was taking people up for a 20-25 minute flight over the city for $35.00. I couldn't wait to give him my money :y2:
In the pic he had just strapped me in and was about to start up and take off. What a thrill to fly in an open cockpit plane!!
These are training planes and each cockpit has full controls and instrumentation. He told me to keep my feet still and hands off the stick - and let him do the flying :y13: Once airborne I watched the rudder pedals and stick move around and read the engine gauges. The flight was fantastic and he did a few hard turns and manouvers to give me a thrill. It was the best $35.00 I ever spent!!!!!

Yes, these flights are considerably more today. They are still offered around here in Lakeland, New Smyrna, St Augustine, etc.

I love the Stearman. It is my favorite light aircraft. Great pic, Rocky.

The old airliner in the background looks like a Canadair Argonaut. BOAC used to operate them in the '50s.That was the first 'plane I flew in!(1955?) London to Nairobi with 5 stops in between!

Whenever I see a Stearman it reminds me of the basic difference between Brits and Americans:
Brits flew Tiger Moths and drove Morris Minors.
Americans flew Stearmans and drove Chevvys.
Both ride Triumphs!

Could also be the civilian Canadian version of the DC-4, (DC-4M) with Rolls-Royce Merlin engines (like the P-51 had)

Yes it could. There is not enough of the plane showing for me to tell.
