Re: 1983 Triumph T140W 750 TSS; 8 valves & electric start! - GrandPaul

Hi Mike,

Sorry, no RH side covers in the shed.

Ordering a 7 plate clutch tomorrow from British Spares. Hopefully will solve my cold clutch disengagement problem. I'll see if they have any carbie rubbers over there.

The H4 headlight works a treat. Infinitely better than the standard glow worm.

Will stay with the standard everything on the TSS, however the Norman Hyde rearsets look great !

Currently got the tank, seat and side covers off mine ( Have locked the RH one away :y2:) and giving the bike a thorough polish ready for the bike show this weekend.

Looking forward to more info on your TSS when you get your parts and have 'er running again.

I found that the carbs took a lot of fiddling to get right. I think, like the rockers, the factory did not spend a lot of time on the fine detail. Now that I have the carbs right the bike runs really well, however I don't think the Bings have that raw edge in the mid range that the Amals do.

Carb rubbers arrived today!!!! wrong ones:y11:

Bugga ! Just a couple of thoughts to keep things going. Perhaps a piece of radiator hose could do as an interum measure. I will ask a local bloke I will be seeing this weekend who is a BMW nut if he has any ideas. Asked British Spares (NZ) and Jim Eade in Sydney today and they can not source any.

Ordered a 7 plate clutch kit today from British Spares. Should know if my sticking clutch issue is fixed next week sometime.

Cheers

I should clarify, the ones they sent are for the T140ES with Bings which have the correct bore but are not angled....

bing carb rubber.jpgcorrect part 60-7400 or 60-7625 depending who you ask?

IMG_0564.jpgThese are the ones i recived which should be usable.. I have e-mailed Reg Allen to see if they have the correct part.

Fingers crossed!

You may have to end up fabricating them from radiator hose.

G'day CarlS

The straight ones will fit but just force the Carb up alittle and it slightly fouls the air box, not sure how critical it is for thecarb to be level but these should be OK I reckon.

Some parts arrived today:

· New (correct) inlet rockers –Hawkshaw Motorcycles UK - $50 pluspostage

· Bing Carb overhaul kit x2 - http://secure.capitalcycle.com $34(US)plus postage

· Top End Gasket set - TMS UK - $42 plus postage

Depending on how much the carbs are tilted, it may affect your float settings. You might have adjust the float levels accordingly.

You can use regular hose for a while, then it will soften and swell. It could de-laminate and dteriorate, getting into the combustion chamber where untold ills await.

I think you will be pleased with the 7 plate clutch. I have one in my 500 and it doesn't stick hardly at all. Even after sitting for weeks the clutch breaks free with very little effort. The clutch action seems to be nicer (smoother) too.

Entered the TSS in the local classic bike show last weekend. Over 100 bikes were entered and I came away with the best Triumph award. :y2:

The Daytona on the left was very tasty

That's enough of looking pretty, once the new clutch plates are in its back on the road to get dirty.

Congratulations on the first place! TUP

Thanks Carl. This annual event is a big weekend for the local British Motorcycle Owners Association organising it all and very popular with the locals. We rent an indoor market for the weekend to weather proof the event.

Tiger is about two weeks away. :y6:

I would love to attend that. I never get tired of looking at vintage bikes.

Be sure to let us know when the Tiger arrives - and post pics!
