Well Kevin I have had a rotten time locating an American Muscle car, I did find this guy though. '77 Porsche Targa 911, if it passes muster I will toss a new tag, if not then its still up fro grabs.

Not what I was hoping for, but ...
I figure back in 77 that Porsche would have been considered real fast and given that it's been a week it'll pass as far as I'm concerned.
Next?

Thanks Kevin.
Yes, according to the owner "back in the day" it was cutting edge.......the Green Goddess has more H.P. & torque (I didn't squabble as he was kind enough to let me take the pic) diplomacy you understand:y15:

Lets see......maybe I can steer some folks into an adventure on the wrong side of the tracks........(no Shane, not hookers!!!!) How about some sort of "Industrial Complex" you know factory, steel mill, auto manufacturer what have you , Heavy Industry.
"Heavy Industrial Complex" thats the new tag gang go get 'em!

If it was still Easter Sunday, it would have been no problem....it was fairly warm like a Spring day.

This morning I looked outside from a distance and though it was foggy. I got closer to the window only to realize it wasn't fog, but snow!

Someday I'll post a pic of a steel mill dumping slag at night. It's something we take for granted, but pretty cool if you've never seen it before. It looks like boiling lava, sparking as it comes out, and lighting up the dark sky for miles around.

About 25km south from us is the industrial area of Port Kembla. The big player in the area is the steel plant run by BlueScope Steel formally BHP and back when I served my apprenticeship it was called Australian Iron and Steel (AIS). In the 60's the air in that area was heavy with particles from the coke-works, blast-furnace and slag dumping etc. These days it's very clean, most activity takes place within covered buildings. The glowing sky at night was a normal thing to see, I haven't noticed it of late, I suspect the BOS furnace runs cleaner and produces less slag.

I'll see if I can get out later today and get the photo.

I remember in the 1960s you had to turn on your car's headlights at Noon in Pittsburgh. That is no exaggeration!

In the winter with all the house windows closed, my mom would have to clean the soot from the inside window sills every other day.

Nothing lived in the rivers in those days and you couldn't swim in them safely.

However today the rivers are clean and the air is clear!

PS: most of the modern blast furnaces today are electric arc and the mills generate their own electricity from river water turbines.

Similar shot, just playing with the camera.

As I said earlier, it's reasonably clean these days but back in the 60's to live at Port Kembla was a real no no.
