Been trying to get the old America licensed for the year. The wife sent in the paperwork in February. We got it back because she put the wrong date on the check. She fired a second check back the same day. Then we get a notice the other day of a late penalty we need to pay. We checked with the bank. They had already cashed the replacement check, but no registration tags. FINALLY showed up in the mail yesterday [May 8]. NO...You are not getting a late fee. For THIS we pay taxes ? ...J.D.
Bureaucracy strikes again!

We all have those daily encounters
Passed under a building near my house, coming back from dog walking.
The young man who lives there (i.e., on the pavement with a roof over) was sweeping the pavement with a dustpan and brush.
Told me he does it about once a week, what with the school children littering.
He's clearly vulnerable, speaking to him. Unhoused shouldn't be a reality in a wealthy nation. My son is mentally unwell. I'm his carer, and I have the means not rely on employment. Not everyone has that support.

There is a terrible mental health problem in many countries all around the world , affecting many age groups and no one is reporting about it in the mainstream media .

The dreaded CD lock downs took a terrible toll on venerable people's health .

My rant today is against me. I could have helped someone, but I didn't.

So, was wheeling my bike from garden to an alleyway (pedestrian only), and I heard a lot of shouting, someone being a accused of not understanding the shouter.

Thought it was a domestic. Was only verbal, no sound of violence, and it's not a crime to shout.

Once in the alleyway, thought maybe it was someone, or somebodies, that had been drinking. Needed to leave bike, go in house to get some things. Worried about my bike. Maybe it would get vandalised?

Then my blind neighbour came out, asked me to help him with his mobile phone.

Fiddling with the phone, a youngish woman appeared, shouting, dishevelled, possibly partly naked from what I could see. I knew, well had a very good idea, immediately what the issue was. I'm immersed in the issue. I carried on helping the neighbour. When she saw us, she became quiet and disappeared.

I did later contact someone at mental health, but they advised me to call the police if I saw her again.

I let her down. Many people would also ignore such behaviour. Worst can happen than ignoring unusual behaviour, as did in a subway recently. I froze I suppose. I had the understanding to if not directly help her, I could try, but to explain to the police she needed help (not tasering!).

I worried more about my bike than her. Although haven't felt good all day.

Well at times things happen and we not in a position to help other and that is just the way it is.
I agree. Maybe you did and maybe you didn't. That will always be a question - and so many questions and "ifs."
Unless you learn some serious harm came to her you can then have regrets. Otherwise, it's over so let it go.
But I fully understand why you are questioning yourself.

So we get home after being gone 4 days cleaning out my Mother-in Law's house(she passed away last December), to find my 4 year old fridge quit working sometime during that time. Great times!

The one thing I love about our Postal Service is you always garenteed to get your parcel, even if it is a bit late ROTFL

FUN FACT- I've had packages I've sent to RSA stolen by either by SARS or SAPO 3 times.

They target stuff coming from the EU and especially the US. SAPO conveniently won't track parcels inbound from the US domestically so the best you get is USPS's tracking notifiation that your parcel actually reached RSA shores… and that's it. From there it goes dark and it's a roullette wheel every time some SAPO PDI hire gets his/her filthy mitts on it as it heads to its terminus. For this reason, the only realistic way to potentially get your package to the intended destination is via International Express, which will easily cost you upward toward $100 minimum and will still take about a week.

If your item descriptions on the customs form is too honest and descriptive, you can pretty much plan on it all being stolen, so confusing language is strongly recommended. Supposedly they can't inspect parcels without the recipient being present so if it makes it that far, he/she will be a witness.

Only other time a package I sent went missing was one I sent to Venezuela, but being Venezuela I was pretty much expecting that.

FUN FACT- I've had packages I've sent to RSA stolen by either by SARS or SAPO 3 times.

I had a parcel that members from the forum sent me and only found out about it when one of them asked me about it month later as they found it strange that I never said anything to them about it.

Then I had a GoPro from Amazon that never reached me either as it was found that the box had been opened and contents taken out so it had to be sent back.

Tip to live by for future parcels- Whoever's sending it has to use colorful confusing language on the customs form. Something like a GoPro you'd want to put "Electronic Imaging Equipment." For something like a pocket knife you'd want to put "Articulated Servicing Utensil." For clothing you simply want to put "Various Fabrics." This way whatever token scumbag SAPO/SARS employee who sees the parcel en route is far less likely to steal it. The token scumbag SAPO employee at the destination will make the recipient open the package at the post office but at that point it's pretty much too late to theive the item(s). The convoluted description on the form is still accurate, you're just taking advantage of the average SAPO/SARS 2nd grade education level to get around their instintive inclination to steal everything. Unfortunately you have to have a third party ship things outside Amazon or Overstock when recieving international post because they won't reword customs form descriptions and they'll send things with their logos emplazoned across the box, which is pretty much identifying which boxes are the best to steal.

You can tell I'm pretty dialed in with all this, eh? I learned it all the hard way.

I take comfort that the culprits now years later are still living in shantytown squalor, still make pauper's pay, and will probably die dirt broke of TB or Hep C or some other disease that we've largely conquored in the developed world. But hey, they get to steal t-shirts and pocket knives from foreign parcels so they can sell them to support their gambling or drug habits. I have no sympathey for those losers, none.

I've had a business account with FedEx for years and I really can't complain, but I remember once I was looking at shipping something back to the US from RSA and I saw a FedEx van in downtown Cape Town, so I figured I'd ask the driver for some shipping forms and how I could go about getting a package pick-up at my apt address to save time.

The driver issued me a lifeless, zombie-like blank stare and said...

"Call DHL."
