I’m guessing you wouldn’t like this mornings temp ;-)
That’s really the main problem in areas not used to snow, people just not used to snow, cold and cities and counties not having the capacity to deal with snow and ice. I think for the most part Houston has taken a day off. That’s likely smart. It's not really that bad, but for a non-snow area, it can be.
Mays as well have some fun with it.
It was -13C this morning and our coldest so far. The sun is well up now and it's -7C.
I agree. Smart if they did that. Summer tires don't do well on snowy and icy streets and roads. That’s really the main problem in areas not used to snow, people just not used to snow, cold and cities and counties not having the capacity to deal with snow and ice. You are absolutely correct!I’m guessing you wouldn’t like this mornings temp ;-)

Outside! LoL. Not unusual for Canada or Finland, but this might break one of the records. Not the all time record, but perhaps a 65 year old record.
- 15 C in Charlottetown this morning . Beautiful day , too cold for the salt to work so found an icy corner on the way to the gym and it was still there on the way home . Hockey tonight !I’m guessing you wouldn’t like this mornings temp ;-)

And none of the locals have snow tires just as I don't. And our DOT doesn't have snow removal equipment. We have to borrow equipment from Georgia and Alabama.Wow Carl, that pretty ugly![]()
I'm not surprised since this only happens so few times over many decades. And none of the locals have snow tires just as I don't. And our DOT doesn't have snow removal equipment. We have to borrow equipment from Georgia and Alabama.
Same thing in Houston. We have snow plows that came from out of state and some northern Texas areas. Hard to say what’s a good strategy, but the snow plow attachments don’t exactly take up a lot of space. It really boils down to road maintenance and we’re not very much prepared to do it summer or winter. The good part is, snow melts and in a week we will have semi-summer again. Stay warm y’all! And none of the locals have snow tires just as I don't. And our DOT doesn't have snow removal equipment. We have to borrow equipment from Georgia and Alabama.
Yes, about 50 years. I remember the last time this happened and it covered much more of the state. We had freezing rain as far south as Fort Myers and Lake Okeechobee. There was snow on the ground as far south as Arcadia.I'm not surprised since this only happens so few times over many decades.
Did I hear correctly that it's been something like 50 years since the last one?
I understand what you are saying. Florida is definitely not prepared for snow and ice. But Florida does a pretty good job maintaining maintaining roads year round. Tourism is our number one industry and good roads are vital.Same thing in Houston. We have snow plows that came from out of state and some northern Texas areas. Danger to life weather warning - I like it - I grew up in Newfoundland, Canada where the weather is extreme like yours in Scotland. Weather can change in 15 minutes and high winds are the norm.Well its warmed up here -2c but on friday there is a masive low coming in with a danger to life warning attached , they say the winds are going to hit 90mph + so were getting ready and getting anything loose or lying around secured down and see what happens .
You have to go in November through March to really appreciate the weather ;-). July, August, Sept. is actually really nice there, hug the coastal communities for some really good motorbiking. I usually take the bike over every summer for a couple of weeks.I’ve only been to the Rock twice . Great weather both trips but it was all on the west coast and Labrador. .
