The boys have been in La Paz, Bolivia, for a few days and it appears they may be staying there over Christmas.
South American's put a lot into religious holidays and the RC faith so they may be staying put to enjoy festivities.
When we were in Chile and Peru we visited many churches and cathedrals which are spectacular.

You are right, Rocky; Christmas is very festive in Latin America. They will really enjoy it.

Hi Forum:
That's true, Latin America is mostly Catholic, and also (being latin), very festive. A good example is the carnival in Rio de Janeiro (in Brazil), Montevideo (Uruguay), the Gualeguaychú (Argentina) and La Paz (Bolivia). Also going to get right for the Dakar, which is long on 1 January in Mar del Plata (Argentina) and this year runs also Chile and Peru. Beautiful show.
Good routes and happy New Year to all, Carlos from Ensenada, Argentina.

There has been no update on their blog, but from the GPS track the guys are moving in a southwest direction closer to Chile and are are probably riding in the awesome Andes Mountains as they also near Argentina.
I notice that they have also abruptly tracked north closer to the Chilean border. Maybe they're just exploring so it will be intersting to see why they did that.
This is the general area of the mountains where we rode so unless they're having trouble, they're having a great time.

My last post didn't show up in the general forum (?) so it may not have been seen.
The GPS track now shows them having returned from a national park or reserve area. There are a lot of protected areas down there - which is good to see.
It appears that they may have been taking a couple of days to ride in the mountains and simply looped north back to a town or area where they were a few days ago.

That is indeed a beautiful area. I am really looking forward to doing some riding in Argentina, probably this winter.

Good for you TUP TUP
It will be the adventure of a lifetime.
It was such a thrill for me that 3 1/2 years later I still ask myself, "Did I really do that?"
Then I play the DVD of my pictures and live it all over again.

All seems to be going well as the guys have crossed the border into Chile and are in the city of Calama.
We passed through Calama, but didn't stop. My only memory of the place was almost getting hit in the front wheel by a crazy Peruvian van driver.
If I had gone down I probably would have been run over as they drive so fast and in such close quarters.
You haven't seen tailgating until you've ridden in a peruvian city.

The boys have finally updated their blog, added a few new pictures and it's worth reading.
They are on the Chilean coast and heading south to Santiago across the Atacama Desert.
They've run into a lot of rain and mud, but it's summer there and the rainy season. That's why I chose to go in the summer.

There has been no update on their blog, but from the GPS track the guys made it to Santiago, Chile and then crossed the border into Argentina.
At present they are in the city of Cordoba which is only a few days away from Buenos Aires - their final destination.
I'm going to be interested in how they get home.
I know South American countries are pretty fussy about vehicles crossing their borders and then not leaving the country.

The guys left Cordoba and are heading in a southwest direction so it looks like they're doing a bit of exploring and in no hurry to get to Buenos Aires.
If it was me, and probably would only be doing this once, I would make the most of it too.

Hear! Hear! Exactly what I would do.

Hello Forum:
Cordoba is 800 km (500 miles) southwest of Buenos Aires. In Argentina, if you're abroad you have no problem with entering a bike, and it is very difficult to register. If you do not want to ship them back, the can be sold here. My mobile phone is: 540221155243562. I have a Samsung Galaxy with GPS and Latitude, a program to share the position in Google map.
Carlos greets from Ensenada, Argentina
