I strongly suspect my low fuel light does not work. The lamp is ok as it comes on with the ignition but as the book says I can ride another 30KM or so after it comes on I thought I'd give it a try. Guess what. Ran out of fuel at 350k which is pretty good mileage. (19litre tank). Any ideas about how to test it. I syphoned the tank down to nearly empty and kept turning on the ignition. Each time the lamp came on (as it should) and then went off as if I had enough fuel in the tank. For now I will just fill up when I get to 280km to be sure.

I never rely on a fuel gauge or a fuel light. I use the trip meter. I only have one bike with a fuel gauge and low fuel light.
That's what I do too.
My H***a has a low fuel light, but it comes/came on way too early - then it quit working - so I don't miss it al all and have never bother to check it out.

I use my mileage too, well sometimes. My normal fuel stop is any time I have to answer the call of nature. . . My bladder is smaller than my fuel tank. Stop, drain one and fill the other ride and repeat. We also have an unwritten rule when riding with a friend or two, if one bike needs fuel, all bikes fill up.

My fuel gauge has a loose connection and I frequently loose indication which is the other reason I don't rely on the gauge or low fuel light.

And the older you get, the more frequent those nature call stops become! BGRIN
