Hello all,

Just joined from the UK and looking forward to picking up my new 2016 Triumph Thruxton in black, on Friday next week. Initial extras include Café Racer fairing, Lowered clip-ons and heated grips.

The Triumph wasn't even on my radar- i was about to get a Yamaha XSR900 - until 2 things happened. Firstly, my Mother sent me some old photos recently including one of my Grandfather sat on his BSA A7 parallel twin in 1948 looking 'cool as' and secondly, by chance getting to ride the Thruxton R at a recent motorcycle show here. It was a proper emotional connection, helped by the fact the bike was exactly what I was looking for in terms of power and smoothness, but didn't really know until I rode it.

Ordering an R would I've meant a 5 month wait, I preferred the black anyway and my riding ability has never really warranted Showa/Ohlins/Brembo! So I blew my budget by £2k over the Yam but went for the fairing instead of an R.

Looking forward to a Summer of exploring the local countryside (fortunately it's the Cotswolds) on it and recreating the photo of my Grandfather, having found the exact street it was taken on in '48

:y151:andWELCOMEto the forum from Lincolnshire. I could be biased here but a Yamaha XSR900 or the Thruxton, well it's no contest really. The Thruxton is a fantastic bike. This one was at Squires cafe the other week, I know it's the R version, but the standard and the R are both drop dead gorgeous.

Will look forward to some great pictures of your new bike when you get it, also some brilliant photos of the Cotswolds, the cheddar gorge being a nice place to start :whistle2: Hope that you'll enjoy the forum too. Hope the weathers good for next Friday as well.
And your right, your Grandfather looks really cool on the BSA.

It is indeed a fine looking bike! Can't wait to pick it up. :)

Rode the R at the MCN Festival over your way at the weekend..miss those roads!

Really good, if freezing overnight in the tent! Got lots of demo rides - MT-09, SV650 and the Thruxton R. Personal highlight was getting out on the classic bikes from the National Motorcycle Museum, which included a couple of BSAs and a Vincent Black Shadow, around the arena track. Getting on a bike similar to the one in my profile pic was fairly emotional.

I learnt to ride in Lincoln, whilst being trained to fly at Cranwell - happy days

I live about 23 miles from RAF Coningsby, I love it when we get Tornado's from RAF Marham and Typhoons going like the clappers over our bungalow, they're late for tea I guess. We've even had the Red Arrows go over too. We get our personal air show over here. The highlight last year was a fly past from the Spitfire, Hurricane, and the Lancaster. I'll never tire of seeing that lot. My mate who also was based at Cranwell lives in Spilsby, is on the flight path to Coningsby, he too loves it

Hi and a big welcome, what a lovely intro,my initiation was similar in some ways,a picture I had after mum and dads passing of me at about 5 years old sitting on my uncles Triumph, you have reminded me to try and dig it out, dust off the cobwebs and post it up.
I love the Thruxton, rode an early one on the IOM for two weeks and loved it!Sadly being an old bugger the bars were just a bit too low for me.I will rekindle my friendship with it in a couple of weeks when I go to stay with my friend for the TT as he still owns itbut prefers to bomb around the Island of one of those bloody prewar things(Velo) that always seems to need a few shoves to start some days!!
enjoy your new bike and your time here with us.

Glad you bought a Thruxton. I grew up on Japanese bikes, but the Asians have well and truly lost it when it comes to styling. I fell in love with the Thruxton R the first time I saw one. I knew I wouldn't be happy until I owned one. Mine is supposed to be here the first week in July. Can't wait.
