About 5 miles north of my home is a town called Waikanae.
From Waikanae ( unlike the other places here on this part of the Kapiti coast ) you can actually head east on to the Akatarawa Road which will take you over the Tararua range to the upper end of the Hutt Valley.
To get to the Akatarawa road you take the Reikorangi road out of east Waikanae and this takes you to a junction where the Reikorangi valley splits of in a northwards direction.

and of course,the video.run time 3 mins.

At this junction, Ngatiawa road heads north a couple of miles and then you can take a left onto Mangone South road which leads you into the western side of the valley.

http://goo.gl/maps/hlku3

and the video.run time 8 mins
note at the 3:58 minute mark you will see the behavior of a Paradise Duck mother desperate to save her young from the evil biker.

If instead of turning left you stay on Ngatiawa road you will find yourself heading up the eastern side of the valley.

and the video. run time 5 mins.

Good videos, Harry. I am amazed at the lack of traffic. Even on the back roads of North Florida, I see more traffic than that. Shame on you for upsetting that poor mother duck. :y2:

All's good, on the way back I met her and dad and they both did the big injured act.
They'd be a great combo at the accident compensation office.:y2:

Great videos as normal Harry, I am just glad I don't have to ask any of the locals for directions to any of those names :y2:

aaah... Just clicked to what you meant Dave
I thought you were referring to the lack of peeps as opposed to the pronunciation of the place names.
they arent actually that hard

Waikanae = why car neye

Akatarawa = ack r tara waa

Reikorangi = rik o rangi ( with a soft g )

Ngatiawa = naa tea awar ( the g is silent.)

Mangone = man go knee.

easy eh.:y6:

It is like the Indian names in Florida. Once you are familiar with them, they are no trouble to pronounce. :y2:

Great videos Harry. Poor old mother duck must have worn all the skin off her feet.

Where is your camera mounted from. It is very stable. Another question...what camera do you use?

You made me homesick for all the lush landscape and excellent motorcycle roads.

Nice work. Thanks Harry.

Cam is a GoPro Hero HD that Sketchy and I bought earlier this year.

It was then superceded by the HD2 and now the HD3 has just been released.
We bought the 1 as the 2 was released and therefore got a great deal.:y16:

For the mounting position I put an explanation here for you

Wow, wonderful riding country TUP TUP
It's a bit like riding in this province which has a population of only 900,000; very little traffic on the back roads we mostly ride on. More than 1/3 of the population is concentrated around the capital city where I live, but once away from the city and traffic congestion, the back roads are ours.
