Unfortunately, my starting issue hasn't been solved (by the service and software update). The garage has volunteered to collect my Bonnie and examine it closely 'til they find what's wrong.

Hehe! Yes!

My son senses my frustrations. He said "I bet you'll get yourself a new Bonnie."!

My enjoyment and faith in my Bonnie has indeed evaporated, but if it's returned fully reliable, all will be well and my love will be restored.

Sorry to hear that. As the old ranchers would say here in Texas: "It's time we all came to the lick log on this one."
ROTFL that's the first time I've heard that one!!!!!

This is a very odd problem because these machines are nearly foolproof.
I can see why it's so disheartening for you and why you have lost faith.
It's got to be something really stupid and then it will run like the wind.

No they didn't. I have told them about this forum and your experiences with the relay. They assured me that they'll investigate the problem thoroughly whilst they have the machine back in.

I don't know what a relay costs, but I would have paid for it if Triumph hadn't covered it. I'm surprised that your place didn't do it, but, then again, maybe they haven't seen this problem all that much. If the cost isn't exhorbitant, I'd have them do it.........and cross your fingers! Mine is still working fine, but I have to admit that I sort of hold my breath every time I push the button; I suppose that the "butterflies" will abate in a couple of months. Lord, but I do despise electrical "gremlins"...........!!! Good Luck: Jim

Well, I guess that "holding my breath" wasn't in vain, and "Mr. Murphy" had his revenge...............it did it once today. I guess that the relay wasn't the "cure-all" that I'd hoped it was. Let's see how it goes from here.................. Jim

Mine is being collected tomorrow. The garage will keep for as long as it takes. If it's returned faulty, I'll get rid and get a replacement Bonnie. Tons of hassle though that'll be.

Last Friday I had a moderately sizeable audience, standing outside their factory, watching me trying to start my gleaming machine. Needless to say, I wanted the world to swallow me up.

Yeah, Greg, I can identify with that, but it was only when a crowd would be admiring my old '70............that's when it would decide to "act up" when I'd be trying to kickstart it; when no one was around it would almost always start on the first kick. Jim

Update!!!

Garage have rang me (they've had my Bonnie for 4 days so far). They've had the fault manifest itself many times, so I'm not going mad! However, they've not been able to cure it, yet.

They've done the following:
1) Replaced starter relay
2) Replaced headlamp(!) relay
3) Replaced battery
4) Checked, cleaned and lubricated start button and checked its connections
5) Checked, cleaned and lubricated key switch and checked its connections
6) Checked connections on new battery

But still the fault remains. They are now seeking expert help from official Triumph technicians to see what else could be to blame. I'll update further when I know more.
