Sadly, keeping the button pressed, does not always work for me. Sometimes I have no choice but to turn off the key, then back on again, before re-trying to start.

My Bonnie is booked in with a new Triumph garage and it's still in warranty, so I'm hopeful they'll get to the bottom of it. I'll update.

Will do. It's very annoying. The problem with intermittent faults is not being sure if it'll play up when it's actually in their care. We'll see.

If there's an answer, they should know it by now....................the problem has been ongoing for a while now. Jim
You're right Jim, they should know the answer by now. However, my previous garage (which has since closed down) insisted that there was no problem, merely a characteristic! It's going in this Friday, so some sort of news will be forthcoming.

........"merely a characteristic"!! That's like say that the Titanic didn't sink......................it just sailed in a different direction!!!! Please keep us informed and I'll be asking down at the Triumph dealer in Daytona when I ride down there.

Jim

Okay, service done and investigations carried out. Here's their conclusions:

Firstly, their computer system received "No error codes from the Bonneville ECU". Also, it started perfectly during their tests (typical!!!). Battery and its connections were perfect. So, during its service they also took the opportunity to "update the bike's software"! I didn't even know the thing had software in it!

So, it was non-conclusive, but time will tell if the software update has improved anything...

In fairness to the garage, they say if it happens again, they will personally collect my Bonnie, even though I'm an hour away from them. They'll then have my bike for a couple of days for more intensive investigations. It's still within its warranty after all.

Well, the Daytona dealer has seen this problem and ordered me a new starter relay. The service manager is quite sure this is the problem. He's going to try to get Triumph to go for it as the bike isn't that long out of warranty. Hopefully, they will go along with his "good will" request. Also, he wants to do a new download to the ecu that Triumph wants done. Hopefully, the relay will be it; I wonder about the download as the bike is running so good that I hate to have it "tinkered" with. Needless to say, I'll let you all know.

The dealer installed the new relay today and did the latest tune download from Triumph...............never thought that I'd see the day that a "tune" was done from a computer on a motorcycle! He did get Triiumph to cover it all and needless to say, I was surprised!! Gotta' give "kudos" to Triumph/BMW of Daytona...........they treated me splendidly. Now, only time will tell on the starting.
Will keep you informed: Jim
