Next installment of the set up of Jessica . . . Grip Covers (Grip Puppies)

To assist in a minor irritation common with the 800XC, I've installed grip covers.

I know this was as simple of an update as they come but thought it might help someone. The instructions are straight forward and need no explanation.

So measure the cover . . .

The cut to lenght cover

I suggest you measure twice and cut once. :y2:

Remove the hand guards if you haven't done so previously. The 800XC Bar End is a 4mm and the inner bolt (Triple Tree End) is 5mm, or at least they were/are on mine.

Spray the inside of the cover with hair spray

This part took me a while to figure out what they were talking about. . . What's this "HAIR" stuff? And why would you want to "SPRAY" it?

Oh well, I figured it out and sprayed the cover as required and slid the first (Throttle) side cover in place.

At this point I STRONGLY suggest you clean the end of the throttle grip because it is going to have a good bit of hair spray on it and you don't want it sticking to the hand guard. This should not be a problem, there should be enough gap between the grip end and the inner side of the hand guard, but why take the chance. I used a Wet One hand cleaner for this task.

Throttle side. . . I wanted to leave plenty of room between the grip cover and the hand guard

And the Clutch side . . . I was wanting to slide this one a little more but the hair spray set up pretty quick as I gave the cover a little twist, I should have waited until in place to twist it but thought it would help to get the grip a little further down the grip. Even with the gap I'm satisfied with the install, well at least at this time.

I haven't heard anyone reporting a water retention with them and I had not even thought about that. Guess I'll be our Guinea Pig and report any water related issues. There might be someone here that has been running them for an extended period, seems I remember reading comments on Grip Puppies.

Gave the covers a short ~100 mile test today. They appear to have done the trick, did not notice the buzzing in the bars at city speeds, highway speeds or WTF are you doing speeds. The covers also held up under the conditions today . . . no water, so no wet weather report.

Jessica was also introduced to her first dirt road. She seemed to enjoy it, I wasn't too thrilled with the rocks we encountered, they were up to golf ball size and in some of the strangest locations.

Jessica's first dirt. . . sand sctually.

So far they are great. I needed something to take the slight vibration out of the bars (a common fault of the XC) and to get a little thicker grip for these old hands. They did take a little getting used to but it didn't take long.

Ok, the Rox Risers are installed and ready for a test ride. The bike does feel a little different but it feels good. I'll have to wait until tomorrow for the test ride, I need a little sleep before I take off down the road. So what do you think? Were they worth the time to install?

Wrapped the bike with a beach towel to protect the finish and keep the bars from knocking any dirt off of Jessica

I was going to do a write up on the install but thought I would just post the video because it shows the process and how EASY it really is. He is a little hard to understand with the accent but the video is pretty much a step by step process.

I had them installed in just a little longer than it takes him, I had to try and locate my Allen Wrenches.
