Eleven people plus a gunman were dead and 31 wounded after the gunman opened fire Thursday on a soldier-processing center at Fort Hood, Texas, officials said.

The slain gunman was identified as Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan, 39, a law enforcement source told CNN. Licensed in Virginia, Hasan was a psychiatrist who previously worked at Walter Reed Army Medical Center but more recently was practicing at Darnall Army Medical Center at Fort Hood, according to professional records.

I am shocked and saddened at the murder of my comrades in arms. May God give the families of the slain comfort, strength and healing. May He give those wounded healing and comfort.

"Outburst of violence" my foot! Outburst of hatred more like it. This shrink was apparently in Iraq debriefing soldiers before their return home to help with post traumatic stress syndrome.

There are no words for these acts of mass murder and the families of these brave young people now have to deal with their loss. But how do you deal with the loss of loved child when their death was fuelled by hatred. I have no idea.....................

To all the families who have lost a loved one, my deepest condolences and prayers be with them.

I may (probably will) regret this post, but...

Some countries like Fiji, Japan and most of central Asia have regulations about native born people keeping control, foreigners are able to stay only as long as the powers allow it, no debate entered into. Countries like the UK lost the plot back in the 60's. Australia lost it when in the 70's we abolished the "white Australia policy" and went for multiculturalism. The outcome is people will come, stay, take all that we fools can offer then back stab us the moment they become dissatisfied.

Having said that I respect these people, but only if they stay where they come from and we also stay at home. We can visit each other from time to time and be friends, we can not live together.

Finally, I am compelled to say I understand why they hate us so much. The attack on the World Trade Center is only half of the story, as is this sad event at Fort Hood, we share the guilt and have much to be sorry for but most are too nationalistic to acknowledge it. The root of this is, the west displacing the Palestinians and allowing a religious miss mash of Jews to occupy their land and form a new country. What's done is done and we all will suffer for a long time. God help us.

Now 13 have died. An awful tragedy that could have perhaps been avoided. Reports say that he had been talking about the unjust war in Iraq and Afghanistan and that he did not support it, that he did not want to go, and that he had suffered abuse of sorts (can't recall if it was about his colour, race or religion) - THIS SHOULD HAVE BEEN PICKED UP AND ACTION TAKEN, THE WARNING SIGNS WERE THERE.

We must also remember the 5 British soldiers who died in Afghanistan at the hands of a rogue Afghan Policeman.

We say "rogue Afghan policeman" they say hero.
When our people go in without uniform and do a dirty job, we call them heroes, they call us terrorists.
It's a war, no winners, just lots of innocent people on both sides.

I agree it's in the eyes of he who holds the gun. But, when a Western force does a 'dirty job' they don't post it all over the internet bragging about it and screaming "Death to Islam" as they scream Death to the infidels!

And whilst it war, then make it such. All this pc pussyfooting around doesn't get anyone anywhere. If it's war, then go in and act like it's war - drop the bomb and get it over with. Dragging a war on for 7 or 8 years is ridiculous. Not even WWII went on that long. They got on with the business of war until 1 emerged the victor. Millions of civilians and innocents died - a tragic loss indeed - but isn't that what war's about. Now days, the Western armed forces have to select their targets carefully - military installations, terrorist hide-outs etc only. But are the West afforded this 'humane' consideration. No. Trade Towers, Embassies, cafes, hotels - are these military installations or innocent civilians?? As far as consideration for the innocent, it's a one way street and only the West are travelling down that road.

I don't even want to start on the Palestine/Israel situation but I do agree that forming a Jewish state with no regard for the people who were already living there, was not a decision that the UN and the West should have taken. And I don't give a hoot about how the land belonged to the Israelites 4billion years ago............blah blah blah. It's history, deal with it.

That post from Gromit was in part a reply to two posts I put up, then removed because in hindsight I considered them too controversial at this time.
My apologies to all.

RIP the innocent from all sides.

Otherwise - don't mind me. I'm just a grumpy old lady and today I seem to be more grumpy than usual. Your posts are very valid and show a balanced attitude. No apologies needed from my humble side and please excuse a grumpy ol' duck. :y114:

Kevin makes some valid points in the posts he deleted. And Kevin, there is nothing wrong with those those two posts. If you like, I can restore them to this thread.

Is the Palestinian situation a reason or and excuse? Or both? I also think the UN made a mistake by not considering the displaced pace peoples of the area in which Israel was created. However, I will point out out that this area was not not a sovereign country. There has been no such country as Palestine, ever. The closest was the Philistines whom were subdued by David way back in history. And even the Philistines did not control all of what is now Israel. This geographic area has belonged to Egypt, Assyria, Babylonia, Israel, Judah, Greece, Rome and others over the many centuries.

I most certainly do not agree that 9/11 was brought on by the US. 9/11 was the work of demented, hate filled, Islamic fascist who have one goal - to dominate the world with Islam. This is not to say that every Muslim or even most Muslims agree with the Islamic fascists. Hate is the motivator of 9/11 and the tragedy at Ft Hood.

Just a historical point...take it any way you want to:

When Israel was created, the land that comprised the new Israel was under the Ottoman's control. So it was Turkish soil at that time. Those who now call themselves Palestinians were being "occupied" by Turks.

Also, from having served in Beruit with the UN Peacekeeping Forces: Jordan, Syria, and Lebanon presently occupy MORE of the land that the Palestinians call theirs (from the 1967 map they always refer to) than does Israel! Inside Israel, Palestinians are actually treated better in all respects than they are in neighboring nations. They have all the human rights that any Israeli does. Since 1967, Palestinians have been forced to live only in refugee camps in Lebanon and Syria and are granted absolutely NO rights there. Jordan completely shut-down the camps and kicked-out all the Palestinian refugees decades ago when there was a Palestinian attempt to overthrown the Jordanian government. The Jordanian Army simply massacred them. Of all the Arab people, Palestinians are at the bottom of the pecking order, the lowest of low by their fellow Arabs.

That is an excellent point that I always mention when discussing the middle east. What rights do Israelies (sic) have in muslim countries?

The right to have their heads sawed off slowly with a dull knife.

The problem actually goes back to the end of WWI when France and GB carved up the Middle East without regard to ethnic or tribal boundaries. The US agreed with the partitioning; but the US received no territory as did GB and France. This pot continued to simmer through WWII when the Middle East was again carved up.

The real problem is the fundamental, core beliefs of Mohammad as stated in the Koran. That is the root of 9/11 and Muslim terrorism.

Female Cop Hailed as Ft. Hood Hero

The shooting rampage at Fort Hood that left 13 people dead and wounded 31 others could have been worse, if not for the actions of police officer Kimberly Munley, reports CBS News correspondent Don Teague.

Munley, a civilian police officer employed by the Army, was the first responder credited with shooting Army Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan, a military psychiatrist who allegedly opened fire in an on-base medical center.

Munley was shot in the exchange of fire but not before shooting Hasan four times. She was in stable condition after undergoing surgery, according to Lt. Gen. Robert Cone.

Cone described Munley as "one of our most aggressive police officers," during an appearance on CBS' "The Early Show".

"As he walked out of the corner of the building, she came upon him," Cone said.

Cone said Munley is doing well in the hospital and has "been talking to her friends on the phone."

Gromit,

I just heard a commentator named Michelle Malkin say the following which I think sums-up what you are thinking nicely:

Whitewashing the acts of extremists thinking they may just leave us alone if we stick our heads in the sand, won’t work.
