I'm been riding for several decades. I bought my 2014 Bonneville-Base (5500 mi.) from a dealer last week and when I test drove it, it started and handled flawlessly. Now it (practically) won’t start w/o the choke out in the 1st position (60ºF here) and it feels like it’s going to stall before I put it into first gear. I’ve read other posts about rough idling and wonder if it comes w. this bike. I’m aware the manual says to start it w. the choke, which is confusing b/c it’s fuel injection.

Some other concerns:

—It does well at high speeds, but feels jerky in town in lower gears.

—I’m the 2nd owner and am not sure if the exhaust system is stock, but it sure pops and backfires some at deceleration.

Thanks for any input.

Welcome to TT from Eastern Canada.
That looks like the stock exhaust on the SE but maybe the previous owner modified or changed something. Have the dealer check it for any mods.
Hope you get the issues sorted soon and enjoy your ride.

Hello and welcome to TT BBEER
These modern fuel systems and mechanics have taken most repairs out of the hands of the home mechanic.
I think the dealer needs to get involved, but why not try some fuel injector cleaner first. It can't hurt.

Thanks, Rocky. Good idea on the injector cleaner.

I just added some "Techtron Complete Fuel System Cleaner" to the tank, and whoa! it seems to have done the job. Simple fix, no more hesitating on startup. Thanks to all who suggested it! :):)

Thanks, neighbor! We're in El Cerrito... I'm really happy w. my first Triumph :)
"When I get my Triumph I'm looking forward to riding around San Pablo Reservoir and Briones. They're easy to get to from Pleasant Hill."
Great idea! But you don't already have a Triumph? Send me a msg. and it it works, I'll join you.
