Hey all!! My Name is Lather, I am the new owner of a 1978 Bonneville T140V,
I have owned several Honda's all '70's Models (350Four 550Four and the 750Four) but this is my First British Bike!!

I also have a 1956 Lambretta 150d now that I drive. Have had several scooters in my day too.. Been driving them since 1980. I guess I need to ditch the Parka and get a Rocker Jacket.

Yes Thank you, I was getting worried about the Oil.. I see it is "In Frame". I had never seen that Before, Was Triumph the Only ones that did that or is it a British bike thing?
So far she is a stunning Bike, Very tough sounding motor, My first Twin, I have always had the Older Scooters (Lambretta & Vespa) and the 4 cylinder 1970's Honda's , I do like the Twin...

Your Jap bikes all had the oil sump in the crankcase of the engine while Brit bikes always had it remotely in an oil tank. Then around 1971 they began using the main frame backbone as the oil tank. Around 74 they switched the gearshifter and the brake to opposite sides...they used to be on the other side from your 78. Harley did the same thing around the same time.

AJ, I think always isn't exactly correct for Brit bikes but yes most British bikes had dry sumps. From memory the Panther ran a wet sump and I think a bit of searching would bring up a few more.
