Ok, it's back on for saturday the 24th. Campsite is reserved so he's gonna lose another $27 if he cancels again, and with what his wife is taking him for he can't afford that ! :y2: Camera battery charging....

trust me, telling me not to forget the beer is like telling me not to forget to pee after several of them. :y2:
But don't wish me a good time just yet...theres still a few days to go and with my luck something will muck up the works.

It all depends on what the probability of rain is. I think nothing of riding with a 50% chance of rain. That means I have a 50/50 chance of not getting wet.

Usually i won't ride in rain under any circumstances. Don't think i can call this off tho. I just hope we don't get soaked either on the bikes or in the camp. Part of the fun of doing things like this is the looking forward to it, but that part is gone now. This just pi$$es me off.

Well, no weather, just perfect temps and not a trace of rain. Things worked out well after a bit of planning, as neither of us had done bike camping B4. Got there at 1:00, setup tents and all that. Around 3 we jumped on the bikes for the 15 mile run to the little lake town of kernville to get food and beer/ice. Strapped it all to the bikes and headed back. Store had truly great sandwiches that we only finish half of, saved the other halves for later on before turning in. Listened to music on a little setup i devised plugged into a mp3 player, drank beers and looked at the trillion stars you see when up there unlike down in the polluted city. Ride up was great, but my buddy rides that harley so slow i had to keep slowing way down and wait for him. Then i'd edge away again and next thing i know he's a mile in back again ! He says the bike is not very stable, but he's harley guy and admits that performance in any way shape of form doesn't matter as long as it's a harley ! He knows thats nuts tho, and he even admits to being a poser. :y2: But riding so slow i got the best MPG i ever got. The best before this was 46 when my bike was a 1600. As a 1700 i think i got 42 once. This weekend i got 50 MPG ! But i gotta tell you, i much prefer getting 35 if you catch my drift. Riding like he does just does not float my boat.

No pictures that are much of anything worthwhile, but i figured i best post a few

Having a keen eye I think I've figured out why your mate rides so slow, look at those handlebars!
Also notice in the second photo he has his cornflakes bowl hanging from the bars.

Yeah, well thats why he says it handles so poorly...apes and skinny wheel. I told him this weekend for the millionth time, drop the apes, get drag bars, and put a set of decent tires on it. But he won't.....wouldn't look cool if he did. Meanwhile i offered him to give my bike a whirl and he says he wants to badly, but that he's scared if he does he won't like his harley anymore. Gee, ya think?:y2:

Yep, he know that and he knows the bird is far better handling with a lot more power. But i think he should. If it makes him hate the HD that will just lead him to have the bike he'd like much more....if he can just let go of that whole bad biker poser ridiculousness.

Great to hear the weather was good and you had a great time. Sounds like this may be the first of many camping trips coming up so I think you will need to get working on your friend to get his bike sorted out BGRIN

Well of course summer is coming to an end, so we will probably not make it up again till next year. But certainly wanna do it again. I didn't feel all that great this weekend so it could have been better. But you know how it is at 50+.....you have to hope whatever day you plan anything for is a good day for you both physically and mentally. So coulda happened on a better day, but still good never the less.

Ah yes I forgot your summer is coming to an end now. So that means you will have plenty time to work on your friend to sort out his bike before next summer. Hopefully next summer you will have a few more great weekends away like this and maybe you could look at taking a longer trip for a few days.
