That tent scares the begebbers out of me. I've seen too many kick stands sink into the dirt at campgrounds. While most of the bikes didn't fall over a few of them did.

LOL!!! Thats crazy ! I'm the first to admit i'm anal about keeping my bike nice, but thats kinda over board....well, maybe. I suppose if you are camping many days in a row and/or under trees that drop a lot of sap or some such thing. But if i had that issue i'd probably just bring a bike cover. Probably expensive tho, and i already have a tent anyways. Thats pretty cool tho i suppose.

I pretty much have done what you suggest. I used to camp quite a bit, so the only change here is it's on a bike so i have to pack lighter. But i made a list and have pretty much what you suggest. I have a suggestion you may like actually. For a pillow i get one of those cheap pool mats you float on and cut the pillow part off which inflates separately from the rest of the mat. Now you have a inflatable pillow thats takes up no space worth mentioning. I put it inside a shirt or some clothing article when using it so it breathes. I usually have a seperat nice inflatable matress, but it's too big for bike camping so i intend to get that pool may but use the whole mat instead of bringing my huge coleman matress. i have done this before and by the time you wake they are usually 3/4 de-inflated. But they make going to sleep easier and are helpful all nite even if less so as the nite goes on.

But we couldn't go this weekend (or should I say HE couldn't) and all the campsites are reserved for next. (labor day) So fingers crossed the weather doesn't cool down too much after that.

Dale, good for you. I have done a lot of bike camping, though not in recent years. I am planning a cross country ride next year and I will camp a bit of the way.

Well finally got a campsite booked for next saturday. Rigging up my $62 sissybar tomorrow....it will take a bit of modding since it's made for a honda. Got a new bag, made a little amp to plug a mp3 player in, and now i just have to figure out how to have light (a tiny battery lantern or such) and whether I have room for a camp chair....one of those ones that folds up into a 8"x3' bag. I'll tell you one thing we'll have room for....beer !!!! Gentlemen, i am once again 30 years old, if only for a day. :y2:

Yeah, heres the report....i didn't go ! Remember i said the guy i was going with is getting divorced and that when ghe was married his wife wouldn't let him do anything like this. Well, friday he tells me "I can't go, she and I got into it last nite and she wants me to sell my bike and give her the money and i have to stay home and get things sorted". So he paid for the camping reservation cost that i charged and said if he changed his mind he'd call me around 7 friday nite. he called and said he better not go. So i asked him about next weekend today at work and he can't go then either because one of the things they got sorted this weekend was he's gotta move out. So next weekend he's moving out to a friend's place for now. I will ask him about the weekend after than in a week and see what he says. The long range forecast looks really good on that weekend, but that long off you can't trust it. but we'll see.

i was disappointed at first, but turned out the weekend was a thunderstorm fest all around the area we would have been camping at so now i'm rather glad. I just hope he's able to do this before the summer weather is over which is only about a month away. I spent $100 on things to do this dammit. :y14:

I thought it must have got cancelled again as we did not hear anything. I suppose being in his position now it is a bit hard to make plans like this without having to change them on the fly.

Sounds like your mate hasn't got any balls. If the marriage is over, one (be it last) weekend away isn't going to make it any worse.

Not really. What it is is she wanted to work things out that weekend and if he left she would have been enraged. Now normally i'd agree with you, but this situation is different because legally she has him by the balls and can take him for all he's got. And she's trying to ! So he was just too worried and scared to go camping. He'd not have even had a good time with all that on his mind. She's even trying to get him to sell his bike and give her the money, and he may have to. So if it were just a matter of her getting madder that would have been a whole different thing. But legal advice has told him he's on the hook for the majority of his income and everything he owns.
