You have to wonder why the authorities would even entertain her law suit against the Zoo. Has common sense left the legal profession in the US. this sort of law suit has far reaching effects for normal people. We wanted to rent or villa out in Spain years ago. we were told that we'd have to get public liability insurance ( I had no problem with that ) then we were told that we'd have to paint " Deep end " on the pool floor, so people could know that it was the deep end, and wouldn't jump in at that end if they couldn't swim. It was getting a joke. In my opinion if your stupid enough to jump in the deep end, knowing full well that you can't swim, then don't blame me for the outcome. Needless to say we gave up on the idea.
Oh well, I'm off now to see how much petrol I've got left in my tank, my batteries in my torch have run out, but no problem I'll just use a lighted match to see how much is left in it.

Hope that the Zoo wins the case

Mad, be sure to hold the match IN the tank so you can really SEE the fuel level! :y2:
Protections from Natural Selection is causing our world population to get dumber, slower, heavier, and down right week. Sadly the child was never given the ability to make his own decisions in the natural order of things.
Can't see much of a case, her stupidity caused his death.
I guess if I stood my son in front of a train and he was hit I could sue the train company????

It is complete insanity (which is our legal system) I would hope someone stops it/throws it out before it goes to far. But you just never know.

It's really not the legal system, but greedy lawyers who put people up to these lawsuits. They offer them no attorney fees unless they win the case. Then they take 33.3% of the settlement. It's not a win they are hoping for, it's a settlement. They hope the zoo will find it less costly to make a settlement offer than to fight it in court.

We had an electrician come into work one morning with an inch long cut just below his eye. I asked him what happened and couldn't believe he actually told us. His truck wouldn't start the night before so he decided to check to see ifthe battery had any water in it. You guessed it, he didn't have a flashlight so he used his Zippo and noticed the battery was near full and then he didn't know what happened. Said one second he's standing there looking in the battery and the next thing he knows he is sitting on his butt with a headache. Said he got up and looked at the battery again and could only find part of it. He still didn't know what happened, figured he just happened to look at it as it shorted. Needless to say, he wasn't an electrician at the plant very long, he wanted to be a lineman.

We now return you to your normally scheduled program. . .

As ever always helpful advice on this forum.:y15:

"I guess if I stood my son in front of a train and he was hit I could sue the train company"????. You raise an interesting point here Key's, lets hope there aren't too many deranged people on this forum reading this or YOU might be sued for contemplating such an action.
Whilst we're all having a bit of banter about this, your comment, "Sadly the child was never given the ability to make his own decisions in the natural order of things", is spot on.
I don't have kids but I'd like to think that I've got 1 active brain cell that would kick in and say, "Don't do it dimwit".

This is worthy of an episode of The Simpsons, it's frighting really.

Anything can happen if someone gets a sympathetic jury.

Remember the woman who wrote a suicide note and the threw herself in front of a subway train in New York city?

She somehow survived and sued the New York Port. Authority that operates the subways.....and won a huge multi-million dollar lawsuit!

There was talk a few years ago about some feller that decided to hang himself but the rope broke and injured him. He filed against the rope company claiming they miss marked the rope test strength which led to him hurting himself. I never heard how that one came out.

I heard he was still hanging around waiting for the out come :y24: My apologies Hemibee I couldn't resist that one

This court case SHOULD come down to what the industry standard is.

In other words....in similar exhibits with dangerous animals, do most other zoos have better, equal, or worse barriers to prevent visitors from becoming dinner?

I think if that is used as the standard as it should be, the Pittsburgh Zoo (a nonprofit organization by the way) will be found not liable. This zoo was inspected by the proper authorities only a matter of Months before this incident happened and were found to be safe for the public and good at the treatment/care/housing of the animals.

Mad, Hemi....................you 2 have Jacked the Sh^% outta this thread and it is HYSTERICAL! ROTFL

And no Mad I wouldn't put my Son in front of a train......at 6'3 and 200lbs (and less than half my age) he would beat the CRAP outta me and throw ME in front of the train! See "natural selection" at work! :y2:

I'm so dismayed at the stupidity of people that I didn't read any more of the first post or the later ones in greater detail.
I don't need to know that information or have any sort of mental image in my head.
As a parent I did everything in my power to protect my children from harm and they grew up unscathed.
Even today, when I tell my 47 year-old daughter to be careful on the highway, she retorts, "Dad, I'm not ten years-old anymore" - and then she laughs.
They never stop being your kids.

How true Rocky.
