So I’ve ridden about 500 miles since installing heat shielding from Design Engineering Inc. My subjective experience is that the shielding is well worth the modest cost. The factory cover over the mufflers is warm but you can put your hand on the shield after an hour of steady riding and it is warm to the touch, but not hot enough to burn. The same can be said for the center black shield, warm but comfortable to touch. The cat cover is still very hot to touch, but does not radiate heat like it did prior to installing the heat shielding. My riding is principally mountain roads at between 3 and 4 k rpms so the engine is well warmed up but not hot. I do almost no “city” driving or stop and go. We consider being four cars back from a traffic signal a traffic snarl, so I can’t weigh in on the impact this shielding will have in city traffic but I can attest to a difference in comfort pre and post installation.
