Boy, was I asleep on this one. Was following the old thread and totally missed.
Congrats on the new ride. Looks great!
Get out and enjoy.

You're not the only one. I've missed this as well. FACE

Well done Sarah, as Rocky said it's a shame that you had to get it the way you did, but you now have a new bike to run in.
The pictures are brilliant, I'm glad I'm not the only one that takes pictures of the bikes when they're brand new.
Enjoy the, "Red Thunder". Lots of pictures please on your travels. :y45:

Thank you all for the very nice comments and positive thoughts!

I'm still a newbie in the riding world, but I want to tell y'all that this bike is da bomb!

I thought I loved how Barney (2013 Bonnie) handled, but the Street Twin feels as nimble as my 234cc dual sports bike. It also feels smaller -- I know that it's a few pounds lighter than the original Bonnies, but it really feels like a small bike, right up to the time when you need to kick the power in.

I'm still in the break-in period, but I needed to goose it to about 80 mph/128kph today for a traffic situation. The ST just yawned at me and said, Really? Is that all you need? LOL

I haven't done any parking lot exercises yet because I don't have engine guards on (I'm paranoid). But I've noticed that in making some U-turns, I've actually gone full lock and not felt as though I were gonna drop the bike. It just...moves when and where I want it to.

I did a thorough and comprehensive real-time check of the side stand interlock safety feature and am happy to report that it works. It worked quite well, actually. On two 'test' occasions.

I had the dealership install heated grips and they work great. The control for it is well-crafted, and is a push-button on the left grip.

The gas mileage was a pleasant surprise to me - I've only logged 420 miles on the bike, but it seems to be hitting about 58 mpg.

And the torque! Holy cow! How can you be in 2nd gear at 50 mph/80 kph? I shift based on the engine sound, and it just seems wrong to be in 2nd at about 40. (Admittedly, it's the top of 2nd gear at 50/low 3rd gear). But hit 3rd at 40, and the engine lugs.

One thing that many people fuss about seems to be the OEM seat. I think it may be settling in some, because it doesn't kill me as much as it did at first. My first ride, I was whining after about 10 miles. Today I did 140 miles and never even noticed it.

So, there you have it. I am one pleased owner.

Thanks for the memories, Barney, but there's a new Bonnie in town.

We were all anxiously waiting for your review TUP TUP
It was a shame about Barney, but it's a new day and a new bike.
Giving the engine an occasional quick shot into the upper MPH range isn't going to hurt it at all.
Have fun!

Great stuff! Sarah. The seat ibecomes more comfortable over time (from my partners experience) and I have found the low seat to be excellent. We recently did an 8000km trip on our Street Twins and I didn't get uncomfortable once. Be sure to lock your fuel cap properly - I was distracted when filling up and felt mine bounce off my leg at 110km/h, so lost it, but unbelievable luck I found a Volvo car fuel cap on the side of the road that fitted. What are the odds of that! I noticed my bike motor really free'd up and motor even better after around 6000km, Best wishes!

Kathy,

I hope you bought a lottery ticket after your fuel cap incident. That is unbelievable, finding a cap that fit it exactly! And glad to hear about the seat, it *is* getting more comfortable as I log miles on it.

Did I miss your travel blog about that mammoth 8000 km trip? Where'd you go?

I didnt do a travel blog (not sure how to go about that) but had a secret group on facebook so family and friends could enjoy the trip too. All the pics and places we went were posted there too. We rode from the Sunshine Coast, Queensland Australia via the coast to Canberra, then along the south east coast of New South Wales and Victoria, Phillip Island for the Island Classic (classic bike races) then on the ship Spirit of Tasmania and 1 month touring all around Tasmania, then along the Great Ocean Road and then home again along various iconic Aussie roads. 2 months on the road, a mix of camping and motel accomodation. I would go again in a heat beat!!

Wow, what a story about the fuel cap!!!!!
Yes Rocky! Amazing luck. Maybe a Volvo driver will find my Triumph fuel cap one day for his car! I also found the tiny tiny magnet (fell out of my husbands side stand sensor) near where he pulled up. Very very lucky, but now have reputation as 'old eagle eyes' not just 'Kathy Wrongway' ha ha

Wow, that was an amazing trip TUP TUP
I've been to Australia and to Phillip Island; traveled on the Great Ocean Road so I'm familiar with a little bit of your route.
Fantastic and beautiful country!
