Hi All. In January 2022 I found a 2019 Triumph Street Twin on a tow yard auction site - see photo attached. Had signs of being stolen, hotwired, and crashed. Considered it a project bike. Never owned a Triumph before.
After completing my first lien sale/purchase ever, towed it home and started to revive the patient and found: 1) Dropped it into 5th and pushed - engine turned - good sign; 2) Checked the plugs for oil, none found (whew!); 3) Checked the oil filter - filter and cabin were FULL of oil - not a good sign; and 4) Drained the oil looking for any water or metal - none found, however, I drained 2.5 gals of oil from a crankcase that should have only 1 gal.!
Repairs started with battery check and recharge (healthy); Gas tank rust clean out (no cap on tank); Resistance check of fuel pump tank assembly (good); Wiring harness needed some rewiring; Installed new gear shifter, brake and clutch levers, ignition (first chance to turn on and check for mileage - 11,442), seat lock, headlight assembly, front turn signals, plugs, air and oil filter, rear brake, gas cap, 1 of the rear foot pegs, intake and side panel covers, and mirrors. Oil and coolant replaced. Gassed it up with Seafoam additive, and towed to nearest dealer (in Dublin, CA) to pair new key to immobiliser for them to try firing up - and it did, right away (whew! again).
Dealer installed new tyres and chain, but smoked up Dublin on 2 test rides, so much so that they recommended I tow it home and take on short rides to see if smoking stops. Didn't smoke on my first ride (triple whew!), or on rides after. Dealer test rides must have burned off what oil made its way into the exhaust from the crankcase overfill.
Wind therapy regular sessions now on the calendar, including my first DGR ride last weekend. 'After' photo is in my profile.
Recommendations & Resources: U-Haul for motorcycle trailer; Speed-Sports; WorldofTriumph.com (parts); Haynes Manual; and, get a lift if you start a bike project - my knees still ache, but a good ache.
