Midwinter 10.00 am and its clear blue sky, 15c about 60f so I off for a ride. Leave the coast and climbed Macquarie Pass onto the southern highlands, this is great biking country, very popular on weekends with the Sydney sports bike set but its Thursday morning and I’ve got it almost to myself. Big smile on my face! After about an hour I’m looking down through the late morning mist into Kangaroo Valley.

I’m into the Valley and then all too quick back onto the mountain seen on the far side of the photo above. Work myself through lots of very narrow winding roads to the top of Cambewarra Mountain and stop at the tea rooms and lookout for these photos of the view and a sign. The view is looking over the town of Nowra and the mouth of the Shoalhaven River is seen on the left.

Getting back onto my bike in the car park I notice another sign that I’ve parked under just beside the telephone tower. Oh well the bike started, that’s a plus.

The road back onto the coast is like a racetrack and I hit the Pacific Ocean at a place called Seven Mile Beach. Stop for another photo opportunity and use a monument to Sir Charles Kingsford-Smith as a rest for my camera. Kingsford-Smith took off from this beach on the first flight across the Tasman Sea to NZ.

Another 45min north to Wollongong Harbour for a coffee, then 10min further and I’m home again.

A very enjoyable ride in the middle of a great winters day.

Hey OW,

Great photos of an excellent ride. Have a pair of those Rossi boots myself. A great Ozzie product.

Cheers, ya notice I have the "knee sliders" removed, just not right on that bike and bags. The Rossi's were std issue when I was with the Post Office so have enough to keep me going for a long time.:y2:

Kevin normally our winters are the same but this year we having exceptionally cold and wet weather. The last pic of the bike by the water is stunning. You guys really have some great riding places by the looks of the photos

If you go to,

http://maps.google.com.au/

and type in, Harbourfront Restaurant, Wollongong, New South Wales, and hit "Satellite" you will get an idea of the area.
Move the little Street View man to Endeavour Drive just behind the restaurant close to the boats and you will see the spot that the photo was taken from.
I live 10min north from Wollongong.

We might well devastate the locals! :y2: I would love to take you up on your kind and generous offer. When circumstances change, I hope to take you up on the offer. I am pretty well tied down now - and that is not a complaint, just the way it is.

Just took a bit of a walk all the way up to Battery park, feel quite beat now need to sit and rest BGRIN What a stunning area I could never become tired of riding around there. One thing that always stands out is how crispy clean everything seems your side

We have a lot of 1800 cannons here too as decorations.
Back in the day the English and the French were always fighting over something so the coast and harbours were well defended.
Some of them are HUGE and you have to wonder how they moved such massive lumps of cast iron:y13:

This city has a noon day connon that is fired every day from one of the old cannons with a terrific blast!
